In this paper, a real-time air quality monitoring system based on wireless network is designed and implemented for industrial park or multiuse facilities. The existing gas detector is high price and hard to apply the remote monitoring system. On the other hand, demand for air quality monitoring is increasing because of industrial gas accident, air pollution, and so on. In Korea, indoor air regulation was established by law. According to indoor air regulation, CO2, CO, and NO2 are important gases as the air quality standard. So we study the gas detector for indoor air quality and the wireless network system. The wireless network consist of sensor network and WCDMA to apply various place. To verify the performance of the implemented gas detector, the gas measurement experiment is performed in laboratory environment by using the realized gas detecting wireless sensor node. And we evaluate the experiment results.

On-line process control equipment for CO$_{2}$ laser cutting is not available for industrial applications. The major part of the industrial laser cutting machines are adjusted off-line by highly educated engineers. The quality inspection of the sample is visual and referred to different quality scales. Due to the lack of automation the potential laser users hesitate to implement the cutting method. The first step toward an automation of the process is the development of a process monitoring system and the research is cincentrated on the area of on-line quality monitoring during CO$_{2}$ laser cutting. The method is based on the detection of the emitted light from the cutting front by photo diode. The developed monitoring system consists of the OP Amplifier, A/D convertor, power supply and PC. The signal from the photo diode has been undertaken from Fourier analysis and statistical analysis with real time. The photograph of striation pattern was taken by metallurgical microscope. As a result, it is possible to predict the striation pattern according to the beam traveling speed.
Japan's first pilot-scale $CO_2$ sequestration experiment has been conducted in Nagaoka, where 10400 t of $CO_2$ have been injected in an onshore aquifer at a depth of about 1100 m. Among various measurements conducted at the site for monitoring the injected $CO_2$, we conducted time-lapse crosswell seismic tomography between two observation wells to determine the distribution of $CO_2$ in the aquifer by the change of P-wave velocities. This paper reports the results of the crosswell seismic tomography conducted at the site. The crosswell seismic tomography measurements were carried out three times; once before the injection as a baseline survey, and twice during the injection as monitoring surveys. The velocity tomograms resulting from the monitoring surveys were compared to the baseline survey tomogram, and velocity difference tomograms were generated. The velocity difference tomograms showed that velocity had decreased in a part of the aquifer around the injection well, where the injected $CO_2$ was supposed to be distributed. We also found that the area in which velocity had decreased was expanding in the formation up-dip direction, as increasing amounts of $CO_2$ were injected. The maximum velocity reductions observed were 3.0% after 3200 t of $CO_2$ had been injected, and 3.5% after injection of 6200 t of $CO_2$. Although seismic tomography could map the area of velocity decrease due to $CO_2$ injection, we observed some contradictions with the results of time-lapse sonic logging, and with the geological condition of the cap rock. To investigate these contradictions, we conducted numerical experiments simulating the test site. As a result, we found that part of the velocity distribution displayed in the tomograms was affected by artefacts or ghosts caused by the source-receiver geometry for the crosswell tomography in this particular site. The maximum velocity decrease obtained by tomography (3.5%) was much smaller than that observed by sonic logging (more than 20%). The numerical experiment results showed that only 5.5% velocity reduction might be observed, although the model was given a 20% velocity reduction zone. Judging from this result, the actual velocity reduction can be more than 3.5%, the value we obtained from the field data reconstruction. Further studies are needed to obtain more accurate velocity values that are comparable to those obtained by sonic logging.
Enhanced oil recovery (EOR) technology coupled with underground carbon dioxide sequestration is introduced. $CO_2$ can be injected into an oil reservoir in order to enhance oil production rate and $CO_2$ EOR can be turned into CCS in a long term sense. Coupling $CO_2$ EOR with CCS may secure a large scale and consistent $CO_2$ source for EOR, and the $CO_2$ EOR can bring an additional economic benefit for CCS, since the benefit from enhanced oil production by $CO_2$ EOR will compensate costs for CCS implementation. In this paper, we introduced the characteristics of $CO_2$ EOR technology and its market prospect, and reviewed the Weyburn $CO_2$ EOR project which is the first large-scale $CO_2$ EOR case utilizing an anthropogenic $CO_2$ source. We also introduced geotechnical elements for a successful and economical implementation of $CO_2$ EOR with CCS and they were a miscroseismic monitoring during and after injection of $CO_2$, and determination of minimum miscible pressure (MMP) and maximum injection pressure (MIP) of $CO_2$.

Nuclear power plants(NPP) are constructed and operated to ensure safety against natural disasters and man-made disasters in all processes including site selection, site survey, design, construction, and operation. This paper will introduce a series of efforts conducted in Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power Co. Ltd., to assure the safety of nuclear power plant against earthquakes and other natural hazards. In particular, the present status of the earthquake, fault, and slope safety monitoring system for nuclear power plants is introduced. A earthquake observatory network for the NPP sites has been built up for nuclear safety and providing adequate seismic design standards for NPP sites by monitoring seismicity in and around NPPs since 1999. The Eupcheon Fault Monitoring System, composed of a strainmeter, seismometer, creepmeter, Global Positioning System, and groundwater meter, was installed to assess the safety of the Wolsung Nuclear Power Plant against earthquakes by monitoring the short- and long-term behavioral characteristics of the Eupcheon fault. Through the analysis of measured data, it was verified that the Eupcheon fault is a relatively stable fault that is not affected by earthquakes occurring around the southeastern part of the Korean peninsula. In addition, it was confirmed that the fault monitoring system could be very useful for seismic safety analysis and earthquake prediction study on the fault. K-SLOPE System for systematic slope monitoring was successfully developed for monitoring of the slope at nuclear power plants. Several kinds of monitoring devices including an inclinometer, tiltmeter, tension-wire, and precipitation gauge were installed on the NPP slope. A macro deformation analysis using terrestrial LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) was performed for overall slope deformation evaluation.

This study was carried out to develop an environment -controlled vegetable growth system. The control objects considered were light, temperature, humidity, $CO_2$ concentration and the conditions of nutrient solution such as pH , EC and dissolved oxygen. A monitoring system was developed to measure the above environmental factors, fresh weight and $CO_2$consumption rate. The overall performance of the developed system was reasonably acceptable for vegetable growth. by the lettuce growing test, it was shown that the developed system had a good repeatability , and the growth responses could be measured satisfactorily.
In this paper, we developed an optical sheet for LED lighting with integrated $CO_2$ gas and temperature sensor which can monitor at the indoor environment. The optical sheet for LED lighting is fabricated through PMMA(Polymethyl methacrylate) injection process using mold. This research enables to fabricate the reflective sheet, light-guide plate and the prism sheet in a optical sheet. The fabricated sheet demonstrates higher intensity of optical efficiency compared with single-sided sheets. The $CO_2$ sensor was fabricated using NDIR(NON-Dispersive Infrared) method and it has $0.0235mV/V{\cdot}PPM$ sensitivity. The temperature sensor was fabricated using RTD(Resistance temperature detector) method and it has $0.563{\Omega}/^{\circ}C $sensitivity.
This study was undertaken to obtain the fundamental knowledges on the weld deflects and it's realtime monitoring method. The paper describes the results of high speed photography, acoustic emission (AE) detection and plasma light emission (LE) measurements during $CO_2$ laser welding of STS 304 stainless steel and A5083 aluminum alloy in different welding condition. The characteristic frequencies of plasma and keyhole fluctuations at different welding speed and shield gases were measured and compared with the results of Fourier analyses of temporal AE and LE spectra, and they had considerably good agreement with keyhole and plasma fluctuation. Namely, the low frequency peaks of AE and LE shifted to higher frequency range with the welding speed increase, and leer the argon shield gas it was higher than that in helium and nitrogen gases. The low frequencies dominating in fluctuation spectra of LE probably reflect keyhole opening instability. It is possible to monitor the weld bead deflects by analyzing the acoustic and/or plasma light emission signals.

Groundwater monitoring wells are important to maintain their performance for long term monitoring. The monitoring wells with extensive internal incrustation by clay adsorption were selected for this study. The performance of these monitoring wells was improved by pump washing, tube replacements for dedicated samplers, and well surging. After each improvement, the Mg, Mn, and Zn concentrations were increased. The results show that under these conditions, the monitoring wells must be carefully inspected at least once a year. Even in the case of no abnormal phenomenon like as internal incrustation, the monitoring wells need to be serviced at least once every four to five years to guarantee that they are effectively monitoring groundwater quality.

Though the maintenance monitoring of structurally weak parts of the tunnel structure in public service must be judged in connection with the monitoring during the construction period for analysis of the behavior of the ground and surrounding structures following the tunnel excavation for the effective management, the monitoring during the construction period and the maintenance monitoring are implemented separately on the basis of the periods of construction and maintenance, so the connectivity and systematic management of the related data are mostly inadequate. The improvement direction is suggested in this thesis, by analyzing the problems of tunnel monitoring in the domestic design criteria. And, it is anticipated that from now on the use of hi-tech sensors and wireless communications technology will proceed vigorously in the maintenance, so considering these situations, the development and application of the maintenance monitoring system and the revision of the domestic design criteria and specification are needed in the future.
