  • By employing Environmental Input-Output Table 2005, which has 76 intermediate sector and 21 energy sources, this paper analyses the flow of energy demand and $CO_2$ after estimating an induced $CO_2$ emissions from 76 industrial sectors. Index of $CO_2$ intensity($CO_2/GDP$) and other index of $CO_2$ intensity($CO_2/calory$) showed that final demand sector uses more high calory energy source. Intermediate sector used less environmental friendly energy source and emit more $CO_2$ at same calory. Industries those has high induced $CO_2$ emissions are Thermal Power($32.587CO_2-g/Won$), Cement($10.370CO_2-g/Won$), Road Transportation($7.255CO_2-g/Won$), Cokes and Other Coal Products($5.791CO_2-g/Won$), Steam and Hot water supply, Sewage, Sanitary services($4.575CO_2-g/Won$). It is shown that industry such as Iron and Steel which has low $CO_2$ intensity, high backward linkage effect and high forward linkage effect makes high induced $CO_2$ emissions. Environmental load and $CO_2$ emissions in overall economy will decrease when not high $CO_2$ intensity industry but also low $CO_2$ intensity industry makes lower $CO_2$ intensity.

  • This study was conducted with ginseng plants to investigate photosynthetic response to changes of light intensity and leaf temperature. $CO_2$ uptake in diurnal course was highest in the first phase (8 00~5 : 30 Am.) on May 30, 1992. In $CO_2$ uptake related to stomatal conductance, these relationship was synchronized in diurnal course, but relationship between TEX>$CO_2$ uptake and intercellular $CO_2$ concentration in diurnal course was synchronized oppositely. Leaf temperature and light intensity at the highest $CO_2$ uptake were in the range of 23~$24^{\circ}C$) and 95$\mu$mol.$m^{-2}$.$s^{-1}$), $CO_2$ , respectively. In response to an increasing light intensity under a constant leaf temperature ($18^{\circ}C$), $CO_2$ uptake was increased throughout the light intensity sequence up to 250$\mu$mol.$m^{-2}$.$s^{-1}$), $CO_2$ When $CO_2$ uptake was measured with a series of leaf temperature under a constant light intensity (250 $\mu$mol.$m^{-2}$.$s^{-1}$), $CO_2$ uptake was highest at $18^{\circ}C$ as a 4.1$\mu$mol.$m^{-2}$.$s^{-1}$), $CO_2$ . Similar changes were also observed in stomatal conductance and intercellular $CO_2$ concentration. Evidences from several approaches indicate that synchronization of $CO_2$ uptake, stomatal conductance and intercellular $CO_2$ concentration were closely inter-related and changes of leaf temperature iuluenced the photo-response in photosynthetic processes.

  • The object of this study is to investigate the effect of compounded welding through the AE (Acoustic Emission) characteristics on static tensile test. This study was carried out a SM 490A, high tension steel using the low hydrogen type E4316 of electronic shield metal arc welding and compound wire of $CO_2$gas arc welding. $CO_2$welding, weak in the intensity of HAZ (Heat Affected Zone), can be improved by being combined with coated arc welding, Coated arc welding, weak in the intensity of the bead, can be improved by being combined with $CO_2$welding. Especially, electronic coated arc welding and $CO_2$welding complement the mechanical intensity of HAZ and the bead with each other. So, compounded welding increases the intensity in the special parts and enhances the quality of goods.

  • ● The current world is suffering abnormal climate caused by global warming. The main cause of global warming is greenhouse gas such as carbon dioxide. The carbon labeling system and carbon traceability system being pushed ahead in the agricultural sector is the policy for responding to climate change to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. To make this policy more effective and enhanced, the amount of carbon emissions should be calculated based on the kind of crops or the various businesses in the agricultural sector. Therefore, in order to estimate the accurate amount of carbon emissions, it is necessary to establish carbon dioxide emission intensity of various agricultural materials added onto the agriculture, and to calculate the amount of carbon dioxide emission for each crop according to agricultural production. The purpose of this study is to establish the amount of emission, emission per agricultural materials, of agricultural materials being added for crop production as a basic step, and emission intensity which can be used in the future market in order to estimate accurate amount of carbon emission in all the policies being promoted in the agricultural sector. Therefore, in this study, in order to build LCI D/B about organic fertilizers among many organic materials added onto the organic agriculture sector, one leading company in organic fertilizer production was selected and LCA was conducted for this leading company. We had to build the intensity and integrated average concept of intensity upon the two cases once production farmers for their own consumption and farms besides organic fertilizer company were categorized even if it's little amount. But in this study, individually produced organic fertilizers were excluded. Calculated results are following. Carbon emission of mixed expeller cake fertilizer in organic fertilizer was 1,106,966.89kg-$CO^2$ and emission intensity was 0.01606kg-$CO^2$, respectively. Total emission of mixed organic fertilizers was 241,523.2kg-$CO^2$ and emission intensity was 0.01705kg-$CO^2$. And total emission of organic compound fertilizers was 94,592.66kg-$CO^2$ and emission intensity was 0.01769kg-$CO^2$, respectively.

  • In order to investigate the characteristics of the plasma induced by lap-joint CO$_2$ laser welding of automotive steel sheets, the effects of welding speed, shield gas flow rate, gap size, and laser beam defocus to plasma intensity emitted from keyhole have been investigated. The plasma light is measured by fiber and photodiode. Also, the plasma images were captured by the high speed digital camera in 1000frames/sec in order to correlate the plasma light signal with plasma pattern. From the results, it is observed that the difference of the plasma intensity for between the deep penetration and partial penetration exists from 1.2 to 2 times. The plasma light intensity decreased in case of the deep penetration Is observed due to the exhausting of the plasma gas under the sheet. On the other hand, under the conditions of the deep penetration, the plasma intensity is significantly increased by controling the conditions decreasing the penetration depth. It was specially founded that the effect of 0.3mm gap size at partial penetration condition is approximately similar to deep penetration in 0mm gap. It is concluded that the plasma intensity is able to evaluate the penetration depth in lap-joint welding and appears to offer the most straightforward correlation to the welding process.

  • The index of energy intensity(energy/GDP) has been a primary policy concern since it can clarify industry sectors which use energy intensively and generate $CO_2$ emission heavily. Although energy intensity index may be suitable for estimating $CO_2$ emission from an isolated industry sector, we need an index for induced $CO_2$ emission since industrial activities are interconnected in terms of input and output. By employing Environmental Input-Output Table 2000, this paper analyses the flow of energy demand and pollutants after first estimating an induced $CO_2$ emissions from various industrial sectors and economic activities. The paper reports higher induced $CO_2$ emissions from industry sectors with larger energy intensity since they produces goods or services retaining relatively considerable environmental load. Furthermore, it is shown that environmental load and $CO_2$ emissions in overall economy are likely increasing when the products of energy intensive industrial sector is used as inputs for less intensive sectors' production process. The result suggests we need consistent policy efforts to reduce energy intensity to lower $CO_2$ emissions.

  • Electricity generation in Korea mainly depends on thermal power and nuclear power. Especially the coal power has led to the increase in $CO_2$ emissions. This paper intends to analyze the current status of $CO_2$ emissions from electricity generation in Korea during the period 1990~2016, and apply the logarithmic mean Divisia index (LMDI) technique to find the nature of the factors influencing the changes in $CO_2$ emissions. The main results as follows: first, $CO_2$ emission from electricity generation has increased by $165.9MtCO_2$ during the period of analysis. Coal products is the main fuel type for thermal power generation, which accounts about 73% $CO_2$ emissions from electricity generation. Secondly, the increase of real GDP is the most important contributor to increase $CO_2$ emissions from electricity generation. The carbon intensity and the electricity intensity also affected the increase in $CO_2$ emission, but the energy intensity effect and the dependency of thermal power effect play the dominant role in decreasing $CO_2$ emissions.

  • We examine historical contributions of inter fuel substitution, changes in carbon efficiency and energy intensity, growth of economy and population to Korea's $CO_2$ emissions from 1970 to 1998 using the log mean weight Divisia index method. The study reveals that economic growth is the most significant factor to $CO_2$ emissions growth among the five factors. Changes in the fuel substitution and carbon coefficient are found negative contributors to $CO_2$ emissions growth. Energy intensity, which played dominant role in halting $CO_2$ emissions growth in the 1980s, began to play reversed role in the 1990s. When evaluated with the log mean Divisia index technique, deterioration of energy intensity in the 1990s is found worse and expected to contribute $CO_2$ emissions growth further.

  • Greenhouse gas emissions should be precisely forecast to reduce the emissions from industrial production processes. This study calculated the direct and indirect $CO_2$ emission intensities of 401 industries using the Input-Output tables 2003 and statistical data on the amount of energy use. This study had some limitations in drawing study findings because overseas data were used given the lack of domestic data. Other limiting factors included the oil distribution problems in the oil refinery sector, re-review of carbon neutral, and insufficient consideration of waste treatment. Nonetheless, this study is very meaningful since the direct and indirect $CO_2$ emission intensities of 401 industries were calculated. Specifically, this study considered from the zero-waste perspective the effects of waste, which attract interest worldwide since coke gas and gas from the steel industry are obtained as byproducts for the first time in Korea. According to the results of the analysis of $CO_2$ emission intensity per industry, typical industries whose indirect $CO_2$ emission intensity is high include crude steel making, Remicon, steel wire rods & track rail, cast iron, and iron reinforcing rods & bar steel. These industries produce products using the raw materials produced in the industrial sector whose $CO_2$ emission intensity is high. The representative industries whose direct $CO_2$ emission intensity is high include cement, pig iron, lime & plaster products, andcoal-based compounds. These industries extract raw ore from nature and refine them into raw materials that are useful in other industries. The findings in this study can be effectively used for the following case: estimation of target $CO_2$ emission reduction level reflecting each industrial sector's characteristics, calculation of potential emission reduction of each policy to reduce $CO_2$ emissions, identification of a firm's $CO_2$ emission level, and setting of the target level of emission reduction. Moreover, the findings in this study can be utilized widely in fields such as System of integrated Environmental and Economic Accounting(SEEA) and Material Flow Analysis(MFA) as the current topic of research in Korea.

  • For developing a canopy photosynthesis model, an efficient method to measure the photosynthetic rate in a growth chamber is required. The objective of this study was to develop a method for establishing canopy photosynthetic rate curves of romaine lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) with light intensity and CO2 concentration variables using controlled growth chamber. The plants were grown in plant factory modules, and the canopy photosynthesis rates were measured in sealed growth chambers made of acrylic (1.0 × 0.8 × 0.5 m). First, the canopy photosynthetic rates of the plants were measured, and then the time constants were compared between two application methods: 1) changing light intensity (340, 270, 200, and 130 μmol·m-2·s-1) at a fixed CO2 concentration (1,000 μmol·mol-1) and 2) changing CO2 concentration (600, 1,000, 1,400, and 1,800 μmol·mol-1) at a fixed light intensity (200 μmol·m-2·s-1). Second, the canopy photosynthetic rates were measured by changing the light intensity at a CO2 concentration of 1,000 μmol·mol-1 and compared with those measured by changing the CO2 concentration at a light intensity of 200 μmol·m-2·s-1. The time constant when changing the CO2 concentration at the fixed light intensity was 3.2 times longer, and the deviation in photosynthetic rate was larger than when changing the light intensity. The canopy photosynthetic rate was obtained stably with a time lag of one min when changing the light intensity, while a time lag of six min or longer was required when changing the CO2 concentration. Therefore, changing the light intensity at a fixed CO2 concentration is more appropriate for short-term measurement of canopy photosynthesis using a growth chamber.
