  • The carbon tax is one of several measures to reduce the green-house gases emitted from burning the fossil fuels, which has been much discussed internationally. The analyses of the effects of a carbon tax on individual countries have been carried out by applying the computable general equilibrium(CGE) models, especially models with the assumption of non-existence of scale economies. However, the introduction of scale economies to CGE models changes the simulation results drastically. In this paper, two CGE models are used to compute and compare the economic and $CO_2$ reduction effects of a carbon tax, one of with is the model with scale economies and the other is without scale economies. One of main results is that the analysis using the CGE model without scale economies may underestimate the effects of a carbon tax on GDP and reducing the emission of $CO_2$.

  • The global warming because of the CO2 emission and solution about this emerge as the international enviroment problem. Particularly, it is the absolutely it is needed for reducing the CO2 in the cement industry and harmful material actual condition. And the construction of home and abroad and material manufacturers tries for the technology development for the carbon dioxide and harmful material reduction which the portland cement in manufacture is usually emitted along with the increase of concerns about the environment-friendly concrete and panel. Therefore, in this research, the compressive strength of the inorganic binder and flexural strength tries to be measured in order to draw the inappropriate high temperature cure time of the ternary system inorganic binder using the blast furnace slag, red mud, silica fumewhich is the industrial byproduct with the cement substitute material, and etc.

  • On-line process control equipment for CO $_{2}$ laser cutting is unavailable for industrial application. The major part of the industrial cutting machines are regulated off-line by highly educated engineers. The quality inspection of the sample is visual and referred to different quality scales. Due to lack of automation potential laser users hesitate to implement the cutting method. The first step toward an automation of the process is development of a process monitoring system and the research is concentrated on the area of on-line quality detection during CO $_{2}$ laser cutting. The method bases on the detection of the emitted light from the cut front by photo diode. the signal from photo diode has been undertaken from Fourier analysis and statistical analysis. As a result, it is possible to estimate striation pattern according to beam travel speed.

  • This study estimates Korea's livestock energy consumption and GHG emissions from Korean livestock sector. The results show that livestock energy consumption in 2013 is 474 thousand TOE, 19.0% of total energy consumption in agriculture sector. It is estimated that GHG emission of fuel combustion from livestock sector is 956 thousand tons of $CO_2$ equivalent while a total of 4,589 thousand tons of $CO_2$ equivalent is emitted from agriculture sector. The livestock GHG emission as a proportion of the total agriculture GHG emissions (20.8%) is higher than the livestock energy consumption as a proportion of agriculture energy consumption (19.0%). This is because coal and petroleum consumption in livestock sector as a proportion of the total livestock energy consumption is higher than that in agriculture sector.

  • In this study, nanopower ZnO and $SnO_2$ as sensing materials were prepared by hydrazine and hydrothermal routes, respectively, and were doped with Pd, Ru catalyst. The CO and $NO_2$ sensors were fabricated by coating of sensing materials on the MEMS-based structure with electrodes and heaters. The 0.1 wt% Pd doped $SnO_2$ sensor and Ru doped ZnO sensor showed the high sensor response to CO 30 ppm and $NO_2$ 1 ppm, respectively. The sensor signal was stable. This can be used for the detection of pollutant gases emitted from gasoline engine.

  • In this study, the researchers have developed the greenhouse gas emission coefficients targeted at sewage sludge incineration plants that treat sewage sludge by incineration. Among the gases emitted from the sewage sludge incineration plants, the greenhouse gases showed concentrations of 6.84% for $CO_2$, 4.51 ppm for $CH_4$, and 86.34 ppm for $N_2O$; calculated into greenhouse gas emission coefficients, these gave $276.06kg\;CO_2/ton$, $0.0066kg\;CH_4/ton$, and $0.35kg\;N_2O/ton$. As the result of calculating the greenhouse gas emission quantity in sewage sludge incineration plants using the greenhouse gas emission coefficients, the gross greenhouse gas emission was $84.63ton\;CO_2\;eq./day$, and the net emission was $23.90ton\;CO_2\;eq./day$; this was $37.52ton\;CO_2\;eq./day$ less than the net greenhouse gas emission that was calculated using the standard values of IPCC, which was $61.42ton\;CO_2\;eq./day$. This difference is probably because unlike the standard values of IPCC, the greenhouse gas emission coefficients of this study reflected the special properties of subject facilities. Thus, it is thought that emission coefficient research on the facilities that deviated from the standard values of IPCC should continue to achieve the development of national greenhouse gas coefficient that reflects the special properties of Korea.

  • It is very important to investigate air pollutants emissions emitted from open burning in order to control nonpoint sources effectively. In this study, we utilized incineration simulator proposed by U.S EPA and investigated emissions of CO, OC/EC, from household waste and biomass burning to estimate pollutant emissions by illegal incineration of biomass wastes. Emission factor of OC was estimated as 17.1 g/kg for rice strew, 23.5 g/kg for barley, 10.3 g/kg for corn stover, 4.3 g/kg for unseasoned wood, respectively. In case of EC, it was calculated as 1.6 g/kg for rice strew, 4.3 g/kg for barley, 1.4 g/kg for corn stover, 0.6 g/kg for unseasoned wood, respectively. Most of the pollutants emissions were emitted at the stage 1 and 2. In the stage 3, the pollutants concentration decreased gradually. To estimate emissions and build inventory for biomass burning, we need to know accurate activity data. We, therefore, used activity data of both survey results of previous study and statistical data of National Statistical Office. However, we need to perform additional experiments in the future to obtain more accurate activity data for various cases.

  • Both rapid industrial development and society has achieved more comfortable life. But, behind this facts of this industrial development have current pictures that occur global warming and much more by-products by environmental pollution. Therefore, this study used BFS and CFA as by-products to reduce cement usage emitted at a high rate of $CO_2$ gas, to examine sludge recycling strategy more than 200,000ton emitted at local dyeing complex, we suggest basic data research about non-cement matrix properties of utilizing dyeing sludge carbide. As a result, the more dyeing sludge carbide replacement ratio gets higher, the more air content and flow rise. Also, as the dyeing sludge carbide replacement ratio increase more, flexural strength and compressive strength go down.

  • To estimate greenhouse gas (GHG) emission, we established inventory of conventional rice cultivation from farmers in Gunsan and Iksan, Jeonbuk province in 2011~2012. This study was to calculate carbon footprint and to analyse the major factor of GHGs. We carried out a sensitivity analysis using the analyzed main factors of GHGs and estimated the mitigation potential of GHGs. Also we tried to suggest agricultural methods to reduce GHGs that farmers of this case study can apply. Carbon footprint of rice production unit of 1 kg was 2.21 kg $CO_2.-eq.kg^{-1}$. Although amount of $CO_2$ emissions is largest among GHGs, methane had the highest contribution of carbon footprint on rice production system after methane was converted to carbon dioxide equivalent ($CO_2$-eq.) multiplied by the global warming potential (GWP). Source of $CO_2$ in the cultivation of rice farming is incomplete combustion of fossil fuels used by agricultural machinery. Most of the $CH_4$ emitted during rice cultivation and major factor of $CH_4$ emission is flooded paddy field in anaerobic condition. Most of the $N_2O$ emitted from rice cultivation process and major sources of $N_2O$ emission is application of fertilizer such as compound fertilizer, urea, orgainc fertilizer, etc. As a result of sensitivity analysis due to the variation in energy consumption, diesel had the highest sensitivity among the energies inputs. If diesel consumption is reduced by 10%, it could be estimated that $CO_2$ potential reduction is about 2.5%. When application rate of compound fertilizer reduces by 10%, the potential reduction is calculated to be approximately 1% for $CO_2$ and approximately 1.8% for $N_2O$. When drainage duration is decreased until 10 days, methane emissions is reduced by approximately 4.5%. That is to say drainage days, tillage, and reducing diesel consumption were the main sources having the largest effect of GHG reduction due to changing amount of inputs. Accordingly, proposed methods to decrease GHG emissions were no-tillage, midsummer drainage, etc.

  • In this study, spatial and temporal variations of radiative forcing (RF) and mean temperature changes due to greenhouse gases ($CO_2$, $CH_4$, and $N_2O$) emitted from commercial aircraft were examined based on the simplified expression at the airports in Korea during 2009~2010. The radiative transfer model (SBDART) was used to compare with the RF and mean temperature changes calculated from the simplified expressions for greenhouse gas $CO_2$. The RF simulated by the SBDART was about 67% higher than that of the simplified expression, on average. The highest mean RF (up to $9.0mW/m^2$ for $CO_2$) and mean temperature changes (up to $9.7{\times}10^{-5}^{\circ}K/day$ for $CO_2$) for all GHGs occurred at Ulsan airport during the study period, whereas the lowest RF and temperature changes at Yangyang (for $CO_2$) and Sacheon airports (for $CH_4$ and $N_2O$). In the case of $CH_4$ and $N_2O$, their effects to the RF and mean temperature change were negligible compared to $CO_2$.
