하이드로포밍용 열연강재의 레이저 용접성 및 기계적 특성 (Laser weldability and mechanical behavior of hot rolled steels for hydroforming applications)

  • The laser welding and its analysis of thin-sheet carbon steels were carried out with high power CO$_2$1aser. Bead on plate welding of thin sheet was examined to investigate the effect of weld variables of laser welding, and to obtain optimum welding condition. Butt-welding was also carried out to show the effect of gap on the laser weldability of thin sheet. At high welding speed, the partial penetration was obtained by low heat input. Otherwise, porosity was formed in the bead at low weld speed because of too many heat input. The maximum gap tolerance on laser welding was observed to be about 0.2mm. This gap size has good relationship with beam size of laser spot(about 0.3mm). The formability of welded sheet was about 80% value of base metal and the gap size has not affected on the formability, although weld quality is dependent on the gap size.

레이저용접에서 알루미늄 도금량이 용접성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Coating Weight on the Laser Weldability in the Welding of Aluminized Steels)

  • Laser weldability of aluminized steels for deep drawing application has been investigated. Test coupons for Nd:YAG laser welding and $CO_2$ laser welding were prepared trom the commercial steels. According to the test results, total penetration and back bead width of aluminized steels were sensitive to the welding conditions. Bead width at the half thickness of the overlap joint, however, was rather constant. Laser weldability of aluminized steels was superior to that of zinc coated steel. Weld microstructure revealed that overlap zone adjacent to the fusion line was filled with coated materials, which was thought to be desirable to protect weld from crevice corrosion. The aluminum coated materials was also found in the weld metal. Practically no spattering was observed in the laser welding of aluminized steels even when the welding was performed without joint gap. In the welding of zinc coated steel, however, spattering was so severe that it was difficult to get the acceptable weld. Bead quality of aluminized steel laser weld was smooth and stable.

  • Continuous wave $CO_2$ laser beam welding and formability of zinc coated steel sheets were investigated. First, optimal welding condition could be obtained in butt welding by using the data for heat input and welding velocity. The highest value of Erichsen test is 79.3% compare to that of base metal. Secondly, Formability of laser welds was investigated by using ball punch tester. Finally, the forming results of butt-welded sheets showed that the joining design was important to apply the laser welded blank in the automotive production.

  • The spatter and porosity could be occurred during$CO_2$CW laser welding of Primer- coated steel for shipbuilding. This study has suggested an alternative idea by examining of weld-defect formation mechanism. The primer-coated plate induced the spatter humping bead and porosity and these are main part of the welding defect. attributed to the powerful vaporizing pressure of primer attached on the base metal The zinc of Primer has a boiling point that is the lower temperature than melting point of steel zinc vapor will build up at the interface between the two sheets and this tends to deteriorate the quality of the weld by ejecting weld material from lap position or leaving porosity. Therefore introducing a small gap clearance in the lap position. the zinc vapor could escape through it and sound weld beads can be acquired. In conclusion, we suggested the occurred and prevented mechanism of weld defects with searching the factor.

  • The Rapid Prototyping and Tooling technology has been developed. However, most commercial ones currently use resins or waxes as the raw materials. These days. the direct metal deposition methods are researched as a true rapid prototyping and tooling technology. A fundamental study on rapid prototyping and tooling with wire welding technology using $CO_2$ laser radiation was carried out in this paper. The main focus is to develop a simple commercial rapid prototyping and tooling system with the exiting laser welding technology. The process is investigated as a function of laser parameters and process variables. Basic parts were fabricated as out-put and their microstructure, hardness and tensile strength are examined for the reliability. In addition, Its advantages and disadvantages are discussed as a rapid prototyping and tooling system.

고속 다전극 자동 용접 시스템 (Automatic Multi-torch Welding System with High Speed)

  • Since the wall thickness can be up to 6" or greater, welds must be made in many layers, each layer containing several passes. However, the welding time for the conventional welding processes such as SAW(Submerged Arc Welding) and FCAW(Flux Cored Arc Welding) can be required many hours. The aim of this paper is to develop a high speed welding system with multi-torch and laser vision sensor for increasing the production speed on the line and to remove the need for the operator so that the system can run automatically for the complete multi-torch multi-layer weld. It was shown that the developed laser vision sensor and analysis of arc blow for multi-torch were effective for multi-pass seam tracking and stable arc. A new automated multi-torch welding systems for thick wall applications has been proved in several production lines.

  • Laser cladding processing allows rapid transfer of heat to the material being processed with minimum conduction into base metal. The effect of $CO_2$ laser cladding with high viscosity mixed powders was investigated. High viscosity mixed powder consists of bronze powder and flux that is used at a high temperature condition. The mixed powder has a high viscosity that it can be easily pasted over a curved or slope substrate. The device for mixed powder was designed and manufactured. It consists of the high viscosity mixed powder feeding system, the preheating system and the shielding gas system which prevents the clad layer from being oxidized. The results of experiment indicated that the feed rate of high viscosity mixed powder was important for later cladding with mixed powder feeding. The high viscosity mixed powder and substrate must be preheated to prevent porosity from breaking at the clad layer. The experimental result shows that the high viscosity mixed can be applied for laser cladding process.
