Two types of synthetic zeolites, commercially used (Z-WK) and synthesized by coal fly ash (Z-C1), and raw coal fly ash(F-C1) were examined for its kinetics and adsorption capacities of cobalt. Experimental data are fitted with kinetic models, Lagergen $1^{st}$ and $2^{nd}$ order models, and four types of adsorption isotherm models, Langmuir, Freundlich, Redlich-Peterson, and Koble-Corrigan. Synthesized zeolite (Z-C1) which had 1.51 of Si/Al ratio was synthesized by raw coal fly ash from a thermal power plant. Adsorption capacities with three types of adsorbents, Z-WK, Z-C1, and F-C1, were in the order of Z-C1 (94.15 mg/g) > F-C1 (92.94 mg/g) > Z-WK (88.56mg/g). The adsorption kinetics of Z-WK and Z-C1 with cobalt could be accurately described by a pseudo-second-order rate equation. The adsorption isotherms of Z-WK and Z-C1 with cobalt were well fitted by the Langmuir and Redlich-Peterson equation. Z-C1 will be used to remove cobalt in water as a more efficient absorbent.

To develop an effective adsorbent for radio active Carbon Dioxide, $^14CO_2$, which is discharged to nearby atmosphere from nuclear power plants of CANDU type, we made some preliminary adsorbents and tested their abilities of $CO_2$ removal. The chemical agents used was LiOH and we supported or impregnated it on the surface or the internal volume of activated Carbon(GW-H). The physical and chemical properties of various adsorbents were measured using methods such as XRD, BET. SEM images were taken to investigate the change of surface morphology of the adsorbents. Finally, amount of $CO_2$ adsorption of them were verified under specific conditions. We found that mechanical mixing of LiOH and activated Carbon showed the maximum $CO_2$ removal ability, while surface activation of activated Carbon by Nitric Acid-treatment enhanced its $CO_2$ removal efficiency to some degree.
In this study, PSA, known as the most economic process, was used to recover $CO_2$ from the power-plant flue gas. Activated carbon and zeolite molecular sieve 13X were used as adsorbent. Activated carbon has been deemed inadequated adsorbent for separating $CO_2$ from the flue gas. However, highly concentrated $CO_2$ could be obtained as a product on the activated carbon adsorbent using the new operating cycle modifying the rinse step. Also, the recovery of $CO_2$ was improved using double-layered adsorption column packed with the activated carbon and the zeolite 13X simultaneously. Adsorption column was filled with the activated carbon in the feed-end side, and the zeolite 13X in the product-end side. The recovery of $CO_2$ increased about 40% with only 25% zeolite, and increased 67% with 50% zeolite at the experimental conditions of 13% $CO_2$ concentration, 10 SLPM flow rate and 2.2 atm adsorption pressure.

In this study, $CO_2$ adsorbent was developed for removing low concentration of $CO_2$ in multiple-use facilities. The efficiency of the adsorbent which was improved selective $CO_2$ adsorption capabilities was evaluated. The pellet type adsorbent was modified from a commercial zeolite with mixing LiOH, binder, additives, and $H_2O$. Column tests showed over 90 % of $CO_2$ was adsorbed within 400min. Chamber tests including batch and continuous types were performed for evaluating the adsorbent module. By batch tests, it was evaluated that about 92% of $CO_2$ was removed within 30 min. By continuous tests, 70% of $CO_2$ was removed within 30 min. It was analyzed that over 2,500 ppm of $CO_2$ was continuously removed as shown chamber tests. The reproducibility tests repeatedly performed for 15 days shows that over 1,000 ppm of $CO_2$ was continuously removed. Adsorption capacity of the developed adsorbent was 5.0mmol $CO_2/g$ adsorbent which was analyzed by TGA. It was estimated that the modified adsorbent was applicable to low $CO_2$ concentration and low temperature of indoor environment.

RC(Reinforced Concrete) structures can keep their performance during intended service life through initial service life and extension of the life through repairs. In the deterministic repairing method, cost and the related $CO_2$ emission increase with step-shaped escalation, however continuous results can be obtained through probabilistic repairing technique, and this is capable of reducing $CO_2$ emission through $CO_2$ absorption. In the work, repairing timing and $CO_2$ emission/absorption are evaluated based on the different methods like deterministic and probabilistic manner. The probabilistic technique considering $CO_2$ absorption with carbonation progress is evaluated to be very effective to reduction of $CO_2$ emission through extension of initial and additional service life due to repairs. When the variations of the service life from initial construction and repair material can be determined, the proposed technique can contribute to reduction of cost and $CO_2$ with decreasing repairing number.
In order to asses gas production behavior for $CO_2$ ECBM, the sorption charcteristics on coal are considered to be a key factor. In this study, we have investigated the change of the sorption rate of adsorbed gas as a function of pressure and temperature below the appropriate depth for $CO_2$-ECBM. The experiment were carried out under four different temperatures varying from $15^{\circ}C$ to $45^{\circ}C$, while the coal pressure was varied from atmosphere to 1,400 psi for every temperature. From this results, the sorption rate both $CO_2$ and $CH_4$ increased with increasing the coal pressure. Otherwise, the sorption rate both $CH_4$ and $CO_2$ decreased linearly as the coal temperature increased. From the sensitivity studies on pressure and temperature change, it was experimentally identified that $CO_2$ sequestration rate and $CH_4$ production rate are better at deeper depths below a depth of 800 m in coal seams. However, the results showed continued decline in the increasing ratio of ECBM with formation depth.
Three kinds of macro-reticular bead-typed chelating resins having thiol groups were obtained from basic resins like poly(strene-co-divinylbenzene) (PSD) and poly(styrene-co-methyl methacrylate-co-divinylbenzene) (PSMD): the chelating resin (I) was prepared by chloromethylation of phenyl rings of PSD followed by thiolation using thiourea. The chelating resin (ll) was designed to provide enough space to chelate heavy metal ions; one chloromethyl group was obtained by chlorination of hydroxymethyl group provided by reduction of carboxylic ester group of PSMD and another chloromethyl group was obtained by direct chloromethylation of pendent phenyl group using chloromethyl methyl ether. Both of chloromethyl groups were thiolated by using thiourea. The chelating resin (III) was prepared by chlorosulfonation of phenyl rings of PSD followed by thiolation using sodium hydrosulfide. The adsorbtivity toward heavy metal ions was evaluated. The hydrophobic chelating resin (I) with thiol groups showed highly selective adsorption capacity f3r mercury ions. However, the chelating resin (II) with thiol groups showed mere effective adsorption capacity toward mercury ions than chelating resin (I) with thiol groups, and showed some adsorption capacity for other heavy metal ions like Cu$\^$2+/, Pb$\^$2+/, Cd$\^$2+/ and Cr$\^$3+/. On the other hand, the chelating resin (III) which have hydrophilic thiosulfonic acid groups was found to be effective adsorbents for some heavy metal ions such as Hg$\^$2+/, Cu$\^$2+/, Ni$\^$2+/, Co$\^$2+/, Cr$\^$3+/ and especially Cd$\^$2+/ and Pb$\^$2+/.

The adsorption of various atmospheric harmful gases (COx, NOx, SOx) on graphene-like Germanene 2D sheet was theoretically investigated using density functional theory(DFT) method. The structures were fully optimized at the B3LYP/cc-pvDZ and CAM-B3LYP/cc-pvDZ levels of theory and confirmed to be a local minimum by the calculation of the harmonic vibrational frequencies. The adsorptions of gases on the Germanene sheet were predicted to be a physisorption process for CO, CO2, NO, and SO2 gases but to be a chemisorption process for NO2, SO, and SO2 gases.
The adsorption capability of cobalt phthalocyanine derivatives was investigated by means of X-ray diffractometor (XRD), FT-IR spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and temperature programmed desorption (TPD). According to TPD results for ammonia, cobalt phthalocyanine derivatives showed two desorption peaks at low temperature ($100{\sim}150^{\circ}C$) and high temperature ($350{\sim}400^{\circ}C$) indicating that there were two kinds of acidities. Tetracarboxylic cobalt phthalocyanine (Co-TCPC) has a stronger desorption peak (chemical adsorption) at high temperature and a weaker desorption peak (physical adsorption) at low temperature than cobalt phthalocyanine (Co-PC). The specific surface areas of Co-TCPC and Co-PC were 37.5 and $18.4m^2/g$, respectively. The pore volumes of Co-TCPC and Co-PC were 0.17 and $0.10cm^3/g$, respectively. The adsorption capability of triethyl amine calculated by breakthrough curve at 120 ppm of equilibrium concentration was 24.3 mmol/g for Co-TCPC and 0.8 mmol/g for Co-PC. The removal efficiencies of dimethyl sulfide of Co-TCPC and Co-PC in batch experiment of 225 ppm of initial concentration were 92 and 18%, respectively. The removal efficiencies of trimethyl amine of Co-TCPC and Co-PC in batch experiment of 118 ppm of initial concentration were 100 and 17%, respectively.
