Nonactivaed adsorption of $CH_3_Cl$ on Si(100)-2$\times$1 studied by LEED, AES and semiempirical method.

  • The adsorption processes of methyl chloride on Si(100)-2$\times$1 have been studied by low energy electron diffraction (LEED), Auger electron spectroscopy (AES) and semiempirical PM3 calculations. The dissociative adsorption of the methyl chloride on Si(100) takes place without breaking of the silicon dimer with high efficiency. For adsorption at the room temperature, the existence of a precursor state is confirmed by the behavior of the sticking probability depending on the coverage and temperature. From AES measurements, the determined activation barrier of adsorption ($\Delta$ Hads) is -28.4 kj/mol. This results indicate that the dissociative process is nonactivated. The optimized precursor state of CH3Cl on the Si(100)-2$\times$1 surface was determined by PM3 calculations based on a cluster model.

Preparation of Carbosilane Dendrimers Based on Siloxane Tetramer: Silane Arborols $(VII)^1$

  • Via hydrosilation-alkenylation approach using hydrosilanes (HSiMeCl2 and HSiCl3) and allylmagnesium bromide with siloxane tetramer (MeCH2=CHSiO)4 as core molecule, noble carbosilane dendrimers with 12, 24, 48 and 96 allylic end groups have been prepared. The reaction path of the repetitive alkenylation and hydrosilation was monitored by means of NMR spectroscopic measurements. Every step for the formation of dendrimer provided almost quantitative yields as pure dendrimers. Based on the observation of UV spectroscopic measurements of Gn (n=1-4) molecules containing allylic end groups, the maximal molal absorption coefficients (εmax) at λmax and the number of double bonds proved an exponentially increased correlation.

  • The electrochemistry and the reaction of non-μ-oxo dimer-forming [5,10,15,20-tetrakis(2,6-dichlorophenyl)porphyrinato] manganese(Ⅲ) chloride [(Cl8TPP)MnⅢCl] with tetraethylammonium hydroxide in water [-OH(H2O)] have been investigated by electrochemical and spectroscopic methods under anaerobic conditions. The stronger autoreduction of (C18TPP)MnⅢCl by -OH(H2O) in comparison with (Me12TPP)MnⅢCl by -OH(CH3OH) in MeCN is explained as the influence of electronic effects on substituted phenyl groups bonded to meso-position of porphyrin ring and the positive shift of reduction potential (-0.11 V) for (C18TPP)MnⅢCl. The autoreduction of manganese(Ⅲ) porphyrin to manganese (Ⅱ) by this process is only observed when one axial position is occupied by a ligating solvent and OH- coordinates the other axial site. The results are discussed in relation to the mechanisms for the reduction of manganese(Ⅲ) porphyrin.

Dependence of Electronic Spectra on the Degree of Conjugation in Organocobalt(Ⅲ) Complexes (공액도에 따른 유기코발트 착화합물의 전자스펙트럼에 관한 연구)

  • The electronic spectra of enzyme-model organocobalt(Ⅲ) complexes containing completely or partially conjugated macrocyclic ligands were measured in various solvents to investigate the solvent effect on the charge transfer band for the axial cobalt-carbon bond by the extent of conjugation in the equatorial macrocyclic ring; completely conjugated, $CH_3CoL,\;C_6H_5CoL,\;CNCoL,\;CH_3CoL',\;CNCoL'$, partially conjugated $CH_3(py)Co(DH)_2, CH_3CoL"$, unconjugated dienes, $[CH_3Co(1,4-CT)](ClO_4)_2$, and open ring, $CH_3Co(salen)$. The position of the charge transfer band which corresponds to the cobalt-carbon bond was shifted to a shorter wavelength as the polarity of solvent increased and the transition energy $(E_T)$ had a linear relationship with solvent polarity parameter, Z-value, only in the case of completely conjugated system. However, the linear correlation between $E_T$and Z was not observed for partially conjugated and open ring systems.

The Aquation of Co(Ⅲ) Complexes in Pure Water and Mixed Water-Organic Solvents With Hg$^{2+}$ (수용액 및 물-유기용매 혼합용매에서의 Hg$^{2+}$ 에 의한 Co(Ⅲ) 착물의 수화반응)

  • Observed rate constants (k$_{obs.}$) for Hg$^{2+}$-catalysed aquation of cis-[Co(en)$_2$(OH$_2$)Cl]$^{2+}$, [Co(NH$_3$)$_5$Cl]$^{2+}$, cis-[Co(NH$_3$)$_4$(OH$_2$)Cl]$^{2+}$, and [Co(NH$_2$CH$_3$)$_5$Cl]$^{2+}$ were measured at various concentrations of Hg$^{2+}$. The k$_{obs.}$ was increased with increasing the concentrations of Hg$^{2+}$. The k$_{obs.}$ were related to mechanistically derived rate constants by the relationship; Rate = k$_2$K[complex][Hg$^{2+}$]. Various mixed aqueous-organic solvent have been successfully employed for Hg$^{2+}$-catalysed aquation of octahedral myetal complexes. From the slope of the plot of log k againt Y (solvent ionizing power), the mechanism on the aquation of Co(Ⅲ) complexes by Hg$^{2+}$ has been suggested to be I$_d$-mechanism. The change in a rate on aquation of each Co(Ⅲ) complex was related to the ligand field parameters (${\Delta}$), for Co(Ⅲ) complexes.

Isolation and Characterization of a Feather-Degrading Bacterium for Recycling of Keratinous Protein Waste (케라틴 단백질 폐기물의 재활용을 위한 우모부해 세균의 분리와 특성)

  • The aim of this study was to isolate chicken feather-degrading bacteria with high keratinolytic activity and to investigate cultural conditions affecting keratinolytic enzyme production by a selected isolate. A chicken feather-degrading bacterial strain CH3 was isolated from poultry wastes. Isolate CH3 degraded whole chicken feather completely within 3 days. On the basis of phenotypical and 16S rDNA studies, isolate CH3 was identified as Bacillus thuringiensis CH3. This strain is the first B. thuringiensis described as a feather degrader. The bacterium grew with an optimum at pH 8.0 and $37^{\circ}C$, where maximum keratinolytic activity was also observed. The composition of optimal medium for keratinolytic enzyme production was feather 0.1%, sucrose 0.7%, casein 0.3%, $K_2HPO_4$ 0.03%, $KH_2PO_4$ 0.04%, $MgCl_2$ 0.01% and NaCl 0.05%, respectively. The keratinolytic enzyme had a pH and temperature optima 9.0 and $45^{\circ}C$, respectively. The keratinolytic activity was inhibited ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, phenylmethylsulfonyl fluoride, and metal ions like $Hg^{2+},\;Cu^{2+}\;and\;Zn^{2+}$. The enzyme activated by $Fe^{2+}$, dithiothreitol and 2-mercaptoethanol.

A Study on Measurement of NO Concentrations in Burner Flames by LIF (레이저 유도 형광법(LIF)을 이용한 버너 화염의 NO 농도측정에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, quantitative measurement of nitric oxide concentration distributions were investigated in the laminar CH4/O2/N2 premixed flame by laser-induced fluorescence (LIF). The NO A-X (0,0) vibrational band around 226nm was excited using a XeCl excimer-pumped dye laser. Selecting an appropriate NO transition minimizes interference from Rayleigh scattering and O2 fluorescence. The measurements were taken in CH4/O2/N2 premixed flame with equivalence ratios varying from $1.0{\sim}1.6$, and a fixed flowrate of 5slpm. NO was found to produce primarily between an inner premixed and an outer nonpremixed flame front, and total NO concentration is raised when equivalence ratios increase. These results suggest that prompt NO is likely to contribute to NO formation in CH4/O2/N2 premixed flame. Furthermore, this trend was well matched with previous works.

  • Microorganisms isolated from soil were tested for their flocculating activity in kaolin suspension, Identification of the best producing CH-23 strain showed that the strain belonged to the Bacillus megaterium. The maximum production of the flocculating from Bacillus megaterium CH-23 was observed in the culture medium containing 2% sucrose, 3% NaNo3, 0.1% K2HPO4, 0.5% NaCl, 0.5% MgSO4.7H2O and 0.01% tryptone at initial pH 7.0 and 25~3$0^{\circ}C$. Flocculating activity was improved to 57% when the culture medium contained Mn2+(0.01% MnSo4). In the culture medium containing Mg2+(0.01% MgSO4.7H2O) and Ca2+(0.01% CaCO3), flocculating activity were reached to 48% and 33%, respectively.

  • Friedel-Crafts alkylation reaction of an isomeric mixture of 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8- (2) and 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8-octahydrophenanthrene (2') with excess vinylchlorosilanes such as vinyl(methyl)dichlorosilane (1a) and vinyltrichlorosilane (1b) in the presence of aluminum chloride catalyst at 80 $^{\circ}C$ gives only one dialkylated products, 9,10-bis[2-(chlorosilyl)ethyl]-1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8-octahydroanthrenes [(Cl2XSiCH2CH2)2C14H16: X = Me (4a), Cl (4b)] in good yields, but 9,10-bis[2-(chlorosilyl)ethyl]-1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8-octahydrophenanthrenes are not obtained. However, monoalkylation of 2 with 1 affords a mixture of both isomeric compounds, 9-[2-(chlorosilyl)ethyl]-1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8-octahydroanthracenes 3 and -phenanthrenes 3'. The yield of product 3' is always higher than that of 3. When a mixture of 3 and 3' is alkylated again with 1, only product 4 without phenanthrene type compounds is obtained, indicating that the isomerizations between 2 and 2', or 3 and 3'occur under the alkylation condition. The alkylation with dimethylvinylchlorosilane or trimethylvinylsilane did not proceed. The structure of 4a is determined by X-ray single crystal diffraction analysis.

Electrolytic Synthesis of 9-Methyl-2,3,6,7-tetramethoxyfluorene with Carbon Electrodes (카본전극을 이용한 9-Methyl-2,3,6,7-tetramethoxyfluorene의 합성)

  • The intramolecular cyclization of 1,1-bis-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)ethane was shown to take place upon anodic oxidation at carbon electrodes in acetonitrile or in a solvent-mixture containing dichloromethane, trifluoroacetic acid(TFA). Yields are low in the former solvent due to the fact that the cyclized product (9-methyl-2,3,6,7-tetramethoxyfluorene) is more easily oxidized than it's precursor and the oxidation product is not stable. In the presence of TFA, the cation radical derived from the oxidation of the cyclized product is stabilized thus, after reduction may be isolated with better yields.
