Chemical Design of Highly Water-Soluble Ti, Nb and Ta Precursors for Multi-Component Oxides

  • Novel citric acid based Ti, Nb and Ta precursors that are highly stable in the presence of water were developed. No alkoxides of Ti, Nb and Ta were utilized in the preparation, instead much less moisture-sensitive metallic Ti, NbCl5 and TaCl5 were chosen as starting chemicals for Ti, Nb and Ta, respectively. The feasibility of these chemicals as precursors is demonstrated in the powder synthesis of BaTi4O9, Y3NbO7 and LiTaO3. The water-resistant Ti precursor was employed as a new source of water-soluble Ti in the amorphous citrate method, and phase pure BaTi4O9 in powdered form was successfully synthesized at 800 ?. The Pechini-type polymerizable complex method using the water-resistant Nb and Ta precursors was applied to the synthesis of Y3NbO7 and LiTaO3, and both the powder materials in their pure form were successfully synthesized at reduced tempera-tures, viz. 500-700 ?. The remarkable retardation of hydrolysis of these water-resistant precursors is explained in terms of the partial charge model theory.

  • Crystal structure and microwave dielectric properties of Ba(Mg1/3Nb2/3) $O_3$ (BMN) ceramics were investigated. Ba(Mg1/3Nb2/3) $O_3$ has the 1:2 ordered hexagonal structure. The 1:2 ordering and relative density of specimens increased with small Mg deficiency(x). The variation of Q${\times}$ $f_{0}$ with Mg deficiency is very similar to that of 1:2 ordering and relative density. The highest Q${\times}$ $f_{0}$ achieved in this investigation is about 96,000 for Ba(Mg1/3Nb2/3) $O_3$. The improvement of Q${\times}$ $f_{0}$ with Mg-deficiency is related to the increase of degree of ordering and relative density of the specimen.

  • The microwave dielectric properties and their related structural characteristics in solid solutions of (1-x) $Ba(Mg_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3$ -x $La(Mg_{2/3}Nb_{1/3})O_3$ (BLMN) have been investigated by measuring the dielectric constant${\varepsilon}r)$, Q value and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency$({\tau}f)$ and by observing the crystal structure using high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). Microwave dielectric properties showed characteristic features for specific composition. Dielectric constant$({\varepsilon}r)$ showed maximum value at the composition which corresponds to the phase boundary between 1:2 ordered and 1:1 ordered structure. The increase in ${\varepsilon}_r$ may be caused by the rattling of ions by incorporating smaller ions and the disordered structure. The variation of temperature coefficient of resonant frequency${{\tau}_f)$ was investigated in terms of oxygen octahedra tilting.

  • BiFeO3 (BFO)는 강자성과 유전체 특성을 모두 구현할 수 있는 재료로서 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. BFO 박막을 제조하는 방법에는 sputtering, chemical solution deposition, pulsed laser deposition methods 등이 알려져 있으나, 이러한 방법들은 근본적으로 고 진공을 사용하거나, 고온에서의 열처리, 낮은 성막 속도 등의 문제점이 있어, 상온에서 비교적 쉽게 박막을 제조할 수 있는 Aerosol deposition에 관한 관심이 증가하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 BFO의 강자성, 강유전 특성을 향상시키기 위해 Ba(Cu1/3Nb2/3)O3 (BCN)를 첨가한 Ba(Cu1/3Nb2/3)O3 (BFO-BCN) 복합재료를 합성하였다. 합성한 마이크론 크기의 입자를 사용하여 나노 결정립 크기의 Ba(Cu1/3Nb2/3)O3 (BFO-BCN) 박막을 상온에서 진공 분말 분사 공정(Aerosol-Deposition)을 이용하여 제조하고, 강자성 및 강유전성 특성을 평가하였다. Aerosol deposition방법으로 제조된 BFO-BCN박막은 BFO박막에 비해 우수한 강자성과 강유전 특성 나타내었다.

  • The 0.8Ba($Zn_{1/3}Ta_{2/3})O_3$-0.2Ba($Co_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3$ ceramics were prepared by conventional mixed oxide method. The structural properties of the 0.8BZT-0.2BCN ceramics with the sintering temperature were investigated by XRD and SEM. The 0.8BZT-0.2BCN ceramics had a superstructure reflection plane of (100), (200). Increasing the sintering temperature. the ordering parameter of B-site atoms were increased. The lattice constant of 0.8BZT-0.2BCN ceramics was 3.97${\AA}$. Increasing the sintering temperature, the average gram sizes were increased. In the case of the 0.8BZT-0.2BCN ceramics sintered at 1500$^{\circ}C$, the average grain size and bulk density were 1.56${\mu}m$, 6.93$g/cm^3$, respectively.

  • The 0.6Ba(Zn$_{1}$3/Ta$_{2}$3/)O$_3$-0.4Ba(Co$_{1}$3/Nb$_{2}$3/)O$_3$ceramics were prepared by the conventional mixed oxide method. The structural properties of the 0.6BZT-0.4BCN ceramics with the sintering temperature were investigated by XRD, SEM. The 0.6BZT-0.4BCN ceramics had a complex-perovskite structure. Increasing the sintering temperature, the peak intensity of the superstructure reflection plane were increased and the density and ordering were increased. The density of the 0.6BZT-0.4BCN ceramics sintered at 1475$^{\circ}C$ was 6.455[g/cm$^3$].

  • The structural and microwave properties of Ba($Mg_{1/3}Ta_{2/3})O_3$-Ba($Co_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3$ ceramics were investigated with composition ratio. The specimens were sintered at 1525$^{\circ}C$ for 5 hours in air. All specimens exhibited superlattice reflection planes of (100), (111), (200), (201), and (112). Increasing mole ratio of BCN ceramics, the peak intensity of superstructure reflection plane were decreased, while dielectric constant was slightly increased. The dielectric constant and quality factor of the 0.8BMT-0.2BCN ceramics were 27.51, 103,681 [at 1GHz], respectively.

무연 Ba0.99(Bi1/2Na1/2)0.01TiO3 세라믹의 PTCR 특성에 미치는 Nb2O5와 MnO2의 효과 (Effects of Nb2O5 and MnO2 on the PTCR behavior of Lead-free Ba0.99(Bi1/2Na1/2)0.01TiO3 Ceramics)

  • The effects of $Nb_2O_5$ and $MnO_2$ on the positive temperature coefficient of resistivity (PTCR) behavior of lead-free $Ba_{0.99}(Bi_{1/2}Na_{1/2})_{0.01}TiO_3$ (BaBiNT) ceramics were investigated in order to fabricate a PTC thermistor available at high temperature of > $120^{\circ}C$. In particular, 0.05 mol% $Nb_2O_5$ added BaBiNT ceramic, which has significantly increased Curie temperature (Tc) of $160^{\circ}C$, showed good PTCR behavior; low resistivity at room temperature $(\rho_r)$ of $80.1{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$, a high $\rho_{max}/\rho_{min}$ ratio of $5.65{\times}10^3$ and a large resistivity temperature factor (a) of 18.5%/$^{\circ}C$. Furthermore, the improved $\rho_{max}/\rho_{min}$ of $6.48{\times}10^4$ and a of 25.4%/$^{\circ}C$ along with higher $T_c$ of $167^{\circ}C$ despite slightly increased $\rho_r$ of $569{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$, could be obtained for the BaBiNT + 0.05 mol% $Nb_2O_5$ + 0.02 wt% $MnO_2$ ceramic cooled down at a rate of $200^{\circ}C/h$.

  • $Ba(Mg,Ta)O_3-Ba(Co,Nb)O_3$ ceramics were prepared by the conventional mixed oxide method. The ceramics were sintered at the temperature of 1500-$1575^{\circ}C$ for 5[hr.] in air. The crystal structure was investigated by the XRD. The microstructure of the ceramics were observed by SEM. The microwave properties of dielectric resonators were investigated as a function of composition and sintering temperature. $Ba(Mg,Ta)O_3-Ba(Co,Nb)O_3$ ceramics have a structure of complex perovskite type, and have peaks of (101),(102),(201),(202) and (212). In the case of the $0.7Ba(Mg,Ta)O_3-0.3Ba(Co,Nb)O_3$ ceramic resonator, dielectric constant, quality factor and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency(TCRF, ${\tau}_l$) were a good value of 26.5, 11.500 at 10[GHz] and -1.3[ppm/$^{\circ}C$] from $25^{\circ}C$ to $60^{\circ}C$, respectively.
