$BaCeO_3$계 프로톤 전도 산화물의 화학적 불안정성 (Chemical Instability of $BaCeO_3$-Based Proton Conducting Oxide)

  • Barium cerate ($BaCeO_3$) related perovskite ceramics currently dominate the high-temperature proton conductor field. Unfortunately, these materials have very stringent environmental limitations necessitating the costly and complex conditioning or cleaning of the application feed-gas. Commercial realization has been hampered, in part, because of the reactivity of $BaCeO_3$ with $CO_2$, and to some extent $H_2O$. And sintered $BaCeO_3$ decomposed at a rate comparable to the powder samples. In this article, the chemical stability and the structural changes of $BaCe_{0.9-X}Y0.1La_XO_{3-\delta}$ (X=0, 0.1, 0.2) have been systematically investigated in the atmosphere containing carbon dioxide ($CO_2$) and water vapor ($H_2O$). The sintering characteristics were studied in $1600^{\circ}C$, sintered pellets disintegrate and decompose upon contacting boiling water on the surface only.

  • We have fabricated good quality superconducting YBa$_2$Cu$_3$$O_{7-x}$(YBCO) thin films on Hastelloy(Ni-Cr-Mo alloys) metallic substrates with CeO$_2$and BaTiO$_3$buffer layers in-situ by pulsed laser deposition in a multi-target processing chamber. YBCO film with CeO$_2$ single buffer layer shows T$_{c}$ of 71.64 K and the grain size less than 0.1 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. When BaTiO$_3$is used as a single buffer layer, the grain size of YBCO is observed to be larger than that of YBCO/CeO$_2$by 200 times and the transition temperature of the film is enhanced to be about 84 K. CeO$_2$/BaTiO$_3$double buffer layer has been adopted to enhance the superconducting properties, which results in the enhancement of the critical temperature and the critical current density to be about 85 K and 8.4 $\times$ 10$^4$ A/cm$^2$ at 77 K, respectively mainly due to the enlargement of the grain size of YBCO film.ilm.

국부용융성장법으로 제조한 (Sm/Y)-Ba-Cu-0계 고온복합초전도체의 CeO2첨가에 따른 초전도특성 (Superconducting Properties of (Sm/Y)-Ba-Cu-0 High Tc Composite Superconductors with CeO2 Additive by Zone-Melt Textured Growth)

  • (Sm/Y)-Ba-Cu-O system high Tc composite superconductors with/without $CeO_2$ additive were directionally grown by zone-melting process, haying large temperature gradient, In air atmosphere. Cylindrical green rods of $({Sm/y})_{1.8}Ba_{2.4}Cu_{3.4}O_x$ [(Sm/Y)1.8] composite oxides by cold isostatic pressing(CIP) method using rubber mold were fabricated. The microstructure and superconducting properties were investigated by XRD, SEM, TEM and SQUID magnetometer. The size of nonsuperconducting $({Sm/y})_2BaCuO_5$ inclusions of the melt-textured (Sm/Y)1.8 sample with CeO$_2$ additive were remarkably reduced and uniformly distributed within the superconducting (Sm/Y)1.8 matrix. Both samples, with/without $CeO_2$ additive, showed an onset Tc $\geq$ 90 K and sharp superconducting transition. The critical current density Jc value of the $CeO_2$ addictive were $1{\times}10^5A/\textrm{cm}^2$ in 77 K, 0 Tesla.

  • Proton conducting oxides based on the $BaCe_{0.9}M_{0.1}O_{3-{\delta}}$ (M = La, AL) were tested for the alternative electrolyte materials of fuel cell. The power density for single cell of Air |Pt| $BaCe_{0.9}M_{0.1}O_{3-{\delta}}$ |Pt| $H_2(3%H_2O)$ system was maximum $0.04W/cm^2$ at $1000^{\circ}C$. In this system, proton transport number was proved to depend on the lattice parameters and the distortion of $CeO_6$ octahedral as a function of the ionic radii of acceptor ions. This proton conducting oxide system requires developing the new electrode materials for application.

  • To fabricate YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{x}$ thick film using diffusion process, $Y_2$BaCuO$_{5}$ and BaO+CuO as the material of substrate and the doping material were selected. CeO$_2$ in the doping material was mixed. As another doping material, YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{x}$ was prepared for the comparison with BaO+CuO doping material. Each doping material was patterned on $Y_2$BaCuO$_{5}$ substrate by the screen printing method and then was annealed above peritectic reaction temperature of YBCO with a few step. It could be observed by X-ray diffraction patterns and SEM photographs that through the diffusion process of the $Y_2$BaCuO$_{5}$ and BaO+CuO, the YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{x}$ phase was formed. With an amout of addition of CeO$_2$, the thickness of a formed YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{x}$ decreased. x/ decreased.

Citrate Process를 이용한 BaCeO3 나노 분말의 저온 합성 (Low Temperature Synthesis of BaCeO3 Nano Powders by the Citrate Process)

  • 분자 단위의 균일한 조성을 가지는 $BaCeO_3$ 나노 분말을 Pechini법에 기초한 citrate 공정을 통하여 합성하였다. 금속 이온의 chelating제로서 citric acid를, 반응 촉매로서는 ethylen glycol을 각각 사용하여 고분자 전구체를 형성시켰고, 이를 기반으로 $900^{\circ}C$의 온도에서 4시간동안 열처리하여 약 100nm의 균일한 크기와 형상을 가진, 사방정 구조의 단일상 $BaCeO_3$ 분말을 합성하는데 성공하였다. 잔존하는 미량의 $CO_3^{2-}$$1100^{\circ}C$ 이상의 온도에서 완전히 분해되었고, 이 때 평균 입도 는 약 2배 증가하였으나 매우 균일한 분포를 나타내었다.

  • BaTiO3 ceramics were sintered on Al2O3, MgAl2O4, MgO and Mg-, Ca-, Y-stabilized zirconia setters. Then the influence of setters on the microstructure of BaTiO3 ceramics and the stability of setters were investigated by SEM, EDAX and XRD analyses. The microstructure of BaTiO3 ceramics sintered on Al2O3, MgAl2O4, MgO and Mg-PSZ showed large grain growth, but little grain growth on Ce-TZP(Tetragonal Zirconia Policrystal). Mg-PSZ(Partially Stabilized Zirconia), Ca-PSZ, Ce-TZP setters showed extensive phase transformation. Y-TZP and fused Y-SZ (Stabilized Zirconia) setters were stable. The liquid sintering aids of BaTiO3 ceramics accelerate mass transport. The reaction of SrTiO3 in BaTiO3 with ZrO2 resulted in the formation of SrZrO3.

Ultraviolet-emissive BaSiO3:Ce3+ Phosphor for VUV Excimer Lamp

  • Ultraviolet (UVA)-emissive BaSiO3:Ce3+ phosphor was astonishingly reproducible by vacuum-sintering at a high temperature through a simple solid-state reaction method. It was conveniently formed in BaSiO3 phases. The compound showed the UVA emission and the UV-VUV excitation due to 5d-4f transitions from Ce3+ ions: emission peak at 380 nm with a 56 nm width. Its temperature dependence and vacuum UV excitability were examined for practical application as an excimer discharge lamp, which showed the high thermal stability (80% at 100℃) and the strong VUV excitations at 145 nm and 172 nm.
