Magnetic Properties of $GdBa_2Cu_3O_{7-y}$ Bulk Superconductors Fabricated by a Top-seeded Melt Growth Process (종자 결정 성장법으로 제조된 $GdBa_2Cu_3O_{7-y}$ 벌크 초전도체의 자기적 특성)

  • The fabrications condition and superconducting properties of top-seeded melt growth (TSMG) processed $GdBa_2Cu_3O_{7-y}$ (Gd123) bulk superconductors were studied. Processing parameters (a maximum temperature ($T_{max}$), a temperature for crystal growth ($T_G$) and a cooling rate ($R_G$) through a peritectic temperature ($T_P$) for the fabrication of single grain Gd123 superconductors were optimized. The magnetic levitation forces, trapped magnetic fields, superconducting transition temperature ($T_c$) and critical current density ($J_c$) of the Gd123 bulks superconductors were estimated. Single grain Gd123 bulk superconductors were successfully fabricated at the optimized processing condition. The $T_c$ of a TSMG processed Gd123 sample was 92.5 K and the $J_c$ at 77 K and 0 T was approximately $50kA/cm^2$. The trapped magnetic field contour and magnetic levitation forces were dependent on the top surface morphology of TSMG processed Gd123 samples. The single grain Gd123 samples, field-cooled at 77 K using a Nd-B-Fe permanent magnet with 5.27 kG and 30 mm dia., showed the trapped magnetic field contour of a single grain with a maximum of 4 kG at the sample center. The maximum magnetic levitation forces of the single grain Gd123 sample, field-cooled or zero field-cooled, were 40 N and 107 N, respectively.

  • Polycrystalline $BaSrCo_2(Fe_{1-x}Al_x)_{12}O_{22}$ (x = 0.00, 0.01, 0.05, and 0.10) samples were synthesized by polymerizable complex method. Based on the Rietveld refinement, crystal structures of the samples were found to be single-phased and determined to be rhombohedral with space group of R-3m. The hysteresis curves of the samples were measured under 15 kOe at various temperatures ranging from 4.2 and 295 K. It shows that they were not saturated with increasing Al ion contents due to the reduction of magnetic anisotropy. $M_{15kOe}$ was decreased with increasing Al ions contents. We expect that non-magnetic Al ions preferentially occupy the up-spin site of $18h_{VI}$, $3b_{VI}$, and $3a_{VI}$. The $M{\ddot{o}}ssbauer$ spectra of the samples were obtained at 295 K, and analyzed with sixsextets for Fe sites corresponding to the Y-type hexaferrite crystallography sites. The <$E_Q$> shows abrupt changes, and the <$H_{hf}$> shows abrupt decreases around x = 0.05 due to the coexistence of magnetic secondary phases.

  • The low-temperature deposition of BaNi(2-x)CoxFe16O27 thin films with a Ba hexaferrite structure for electromagnetic shielding was studied. The BaNi(2-x)CoxFe16O27 thin films produced through the spin spray process were suitable for thin film deposition on a flexible substrate because it crystallized well at low temperature below 90℃. The change in shielding characteristics depending on the Co content of the BaNi(2-x)CoxFe16O27 thin film was investigated, and excellent shielding characteristics with S21 of -1 dB were obtained in a wide frequency range of 26~40 GHz when the Co content was 0.4 or more. The purpose of this study is to analyze changes in shielding properties caused by change in Co content in relation to phase changes in BaNi(2-x)CoxFe16O27 and obtain basic data for developing excellent flexible electromagnetic wave shielding materials.

Patterning of Y-Ba-Cu-O thin films by rdactive ion etching(RIE) (활성이온식각법에 의한 Y-Ba-Cu-O고온초전도 박막의 미세선 제작)

  • Abstract We have fabricated Y-Ba-Cu-O superconducting thin films by in-situ on-axis rf magnetron sputtering method using $Y_1$B$a_2$C${u_4}\;{_2O_x}$ nonstoichiometric target. Reactive ion etching (RIE) method was used in patterning the films. We have investigated the properties of patterned films, and compared the properties of the films before and after patterning. As the line width of the pattern decreases from 5${\mu}$m to 2${\mu}$m, a slight but not significant degradation in superconducting properties of the patterned films is observed. The bridge patterns are found to have clean edges and good electrical properties enough to be applied in device applications. From the result of this research, the possibility of submicron patterning by RlE is confirmed.

Luminescence Study of Eu3+ Ions Doped BaMoO4 Nanoparticles

  • Cost-effective, robust devices for solid-state lighting industry that converts electricity to light revolutionize the current lighting industry. Phosphor materials used in these devices should be synthesized in a low-cost and effective method for use in WLEDs. In this presentation, the synthesis of Eu3+ ions doped BaMoO4 phosphor samples by a facile synthesis process for red component of WLEDs will be shown. The tetragonal phase of the host lattice was substantiated by the X-ray diffraction patterns. The morphological studies were carried out by using a field-emission scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscope. These confirmed the formation of a shuttle like particles with perpendicular protrusions in the middle of the particle. The photoluminescence (PL) properties exhibited good emission with a high asymmetry ratio when excited with ultraviolet B wavelengths (~ 280-315 nm). The cathodoluminescence (CL) spectra showed similar results to the PL spectra, indicating the rich red emission. The results suggest that this phosphor is a good material as red region component in the development of tri-band UV excitation based WLEDs.

  • The present study performed the isolation of cytosolic ascorbate peroxidase (APX) isozymes and analyzed the pattern of their activity development and also investigated the change in some other enzyme activities related to the ascorbate-glutathione pathway from the senescing wheat leaves. The aim of this work is to examine the possibility that in the cytoplasm of wheat leaves the ascorbate-glutathione pathway p!ays a significant role in relation to leaf senescence involving an $H_2O_2$ accumulation and then to show the effect of benzyladenine (BA) on that pathway. During the leaf senescence characterized by increases in ChI breakdown and H202 accumulation under the 4-day dark incubation of matured leaf segments; i) no significant increase of total cytosolic APX was observed, ii) a dehydroascorbate reductase (DHAR) activity was decreased rapidly, iii) a slight increase of glutathione reductase (GR) activity occurred. In the BA-treated leaves; however, i) the total activity of APX increased conspicuously, ii) the decrease of DHAR activity was relatively inhibited, iii) the GR activity increase was more enhanced, and iv) the decrease of ascorbate content and the increase of H202 content were retarded as compared with those of control leaves. Three isozymes of cytosolic APX were found by using a native-electrophoretic gel in senescing wheat leaves and two of them occurred with major activity. In the developmental patterns of cytosolic APX isozymes, only two isozyme bands ("a" and "b") appeared with almost constant activity through 4 days of incubation in the control leaves, while one additional weak isozyme band ("c") and a little increase of "b" isozyme activity were detected in the BA-treated leaves. EspeciaUy, the development of "a" isozyme activity increased remarkably compared with that of control leaves. The increased capacity for peroxide scavenging due to the enhanced activity of all 3 enzymes (APX, DHAR, GR) participating in the ascorbate-glutathione pathway in BA-treated leaves suggested that this pathway might playa significant role in the processes related to the wheat leaf senescence.scence.

Low Temperature sintering of $Al_2O_3-TiO_2$ ceramics (저온소결 $Al_2O_3-TiO_2$ 세라믹의 마이크로파 유전특성에 관한 연구)

  • $Al_2O_3-TiO_2$(AT)ceramics shows great promise as a dielectric material for millimeter-wave use. The sintering temperature of AT ceramics was approximately $1450^{\circ}C$ and decreased to $900^{\circ}C$ with the addition of BaCu(B2O5) (BCB) ceramic powder. The presence, of the liquid phase was responsible for the decrease of the sintering temperature. The liquid phase is considered to have a composition similar to the BaO-deficient BCB. The Q-value initially increased with the addition of BCB, but decreased considerably when a large amount of BCB was added, because of the presence of the liquid phase. Good microwave dielectric properties of $Q{\times}f\;=\;16,200\;GHz$, ${\varepsilon}_r\;=\;9$ and ${\tau}_f\;=\;-4\;ppm/^{\circ}C$ were obtained for the 20.0 mol% BCB-added AT ceramics sintered at $900^{\circ}C$ for 2 h.

The Electrical Properties of Bi2O3 Doped BaTi4O9 Ceramic Thick Film Monopole Antenna (Bi2O3가 첨가된 BaTi4O9 세라믹 후막 모노폴 안테나의 전기적 특성)

  • In this paper, we fabricated thick film monopole antennas using Bi$_2$O$_3$-doped BaTi$_4$$O_{9}$ ceramics for small size and broadband intenna. In the result, the high permittivity was fixed and the quality factor was also significantly decreased by the formation of secondary phase of Bi$_4$Ti$_3$O$_{12}$ repleced by addtion Bi. The antenna property influenced by the quality value more than the permittivity. The bandwidth of antenna was increased to 33 %. On the other hand, the gain was reduced to -4.3 dBi. Also radiation patterns were showed low dBi value by increasing of dielectric loss. Specially, Measured x-y plane radiation patterns was distorted as the dispersion of wavelength and high permittivity difference. But the result is showed execellent bandwidth because of low quality value in all formation range.nge.

  • Phase formation and proton conduction of L $a_{0.6}$B $a_{0.4}$I $n_{1-y}$ $M_{y}$ $O_{3-{\delta}}$(M=G $a^{3+}$, S $c^{3+}$, Y $b^{3+}$) system were studied. A cubic perovskite structure with a single phase was formed in all of the compositions of this work except for the composition off=G $a^{3+}$ with y=0.5, viz,L $a_{0.6}$B $a_{0.4}$I $n_{1-y}$G $a_{0.5}$ $O_{3-{\delta}}$ For the compositions of M=S $c^{3+}$and Y $b^{3+}$with y=0.25, proton conduction occurred in wet $N_2$ atmosphere(P $h_{H_2O}$=6.1hPa).X>/=6.1hPa).Pa).

Relation between Metamorphic P-T Conditions and Boron Concentrations of Metasedimentary Rocks and Biotite Granitic Gneisses from NE Yeongnam Massif around Samcheok Area, South Korea (영남 육괴 북동부 변성퇴적암과 흑운모 화강편마암의 변성 온도-압력 조건과 전압 붕소 함량사이의 상관관계)

  • This study is focused on the relationship between whole rock boron contents and metamorphic P-T conditions of metasedimentary rocks from northeastern Yeongnam massif around Samcheok area, Korea. Metamorphic P-T conditions of sillimanite and garnet zones based on the Ti-biotite geothermometer is 553-687$^{\circ}C$ and 582-722$^{\circ}C$ at 4-6 kbar, respectively. In the metasedimentary rocks, boron contents in whole rock decrease with increasing metamorphic grade, from sillimanite zone (9.60-189 ppm B) to garnet zone (2.63-15.97 ppm B), except one sample (90.9 ppm B) from garnet zone containing graphites. Boron depletion in garnet zone has relation with mode of tourmaline which are broken down with increasing metamorphic temperature. Boron contents are indirectly proportional to major and trace elements such as $Al_2O_3$, MgO, $Fe_2O_3$, $K_2O$, Li, Ba, Sc, Co, Cr, Rb and Cs that are abundant in tourmalines. In conclustion, tourmalines and graphite are modulator of boron contents in metasedimentary rocks. In the biotite granitic gneisses, boron contents (2.62-12.2 ppm B) are similar or lower than those of metasedimentary rocks and have no relation with metamorphic P-T conditions.
