산화구리 촉매담지 세라믹 캔들필터를 이용한 NO 제거 (Removal of NO Using CuO/3Al2O3 · 2SiO2 Catalyst Impregnated Ceramic Candle Filters)

  • The CuO/$3AL_2O_3{\cdot}2SiO_2$ catalyst impregnated ceramic candle filters for nitrogen oxides removal were prepared by porous mullite($3AL_2O_3{\cdot}2SiO_2$) support and CuO catalyst deposited on this support to achieve uniformly dispersed CuO deposition, which are impregnated into the pores of available alumino-silicate ceramic candle filter. The CuO/3$AL_2O_3{\cdot}2SiO_2$ catalyst impregnated ceramic candle filters were characterized by XRD, BET, air permeability, pore size, SEM and catalytic tests in the reduction of NOx by NH$_3$. The observed effects of CuO/3$AL_2O_3{\cdot}2SiO_2$ impregnated ceramic candle filters in SCR reaction are as follows : (1) when the content of CuO catalyst increased further, activity of NO increased. (2) NO conversion at first increased with temperature and then decreased at high temperatures (above 40$0^{\circ}C$), possibly due to the occurrence of the ammonia oxidation reaction. (3) In pilot plant test for 3 months, NO conversion was greater than 90%.

  • 4성분 $SrO-B_2O_3-Al_2O_3-SiO_2$ 유리들을 $R({\equiv}SrO\;mole%/B_2O_3\;mole%)$$K({\equiv}(Al_2O_3+SiO_2)\;mole%/B_2O_3\;mole%)$에 의하여 제작하여 적외선 흡수(Infrared absorption)을 이용하여 유리들의 구조를 조사하였다. R의 증가에 따라 $1,200{\sim}1,600cm^{-1}$ 영역에서 대칭적 3배위 구조인 $BO_3$ 단위구조에 의한 B-O 결합의 신축떨기(stretching vibration)에 의한 흡수 띠의 세기가 감소되어지며, 사면체 구조인 $BO_4$ 단위구조에 의한 B-O 결합의 신축떨기에 의한 흡수 띠의 세기는 $800{\sim}1,200cm^{-1}$ 영역에서 변화되어졌다. 그라고 K의 증가에 따라 대칭적 3배위 구조인 $BO_3$ 단위구조에 의한 B-O 결합의 신축떨기에 의한 흡수 띠의 세기는 증가되어지며, 사면체 구조인 $BO_4$ 단위구조에 의한 B-O 결합의 신축떨기에 의한 흡수 띠의 세기가 감소되어졌다.

Lipofectamine-2000 Assisted Magnetofection to Fibroblast Cells Using Polyethyleneimine-Fe3O4@SiO2 Nanoparticles

  • We successfully synthesized $Fe_3O_4@SiO_2$ nanoparticles with ultrathin silica layer of $1.0{\pm}0.5$ nm that polyethyleneimine (PEI) with low molecular weight of 2.0-4.0 kDa was covalently conjugated with the resulting $Fe_3O_4@SiO_2$ nanoparticles by silane coupling reaction. The PEI-$Fe_3O_4@SiO_2$ nanoparticles were further used as gene delivery vector for a human fibroblast cell (IMR-90) line. Gene transfection efficiency of the PEI-$Fe_3O_4@SiO_2$ complexes did not increase remarkably after magnetofection; however, the addition of Lipofectamine 2000 significantly increased the transfection efficiency of the PEI-$Fe_3O_4@SiO_2$ complexes. We believe that the present approach could be utilized for magnetofection as alternative to $Fe_3O_4$ nanoparticles conjugated with the PEI of high molecular weight thanks to its relatively low cytotoxicity and high transfection efficiency.

  • The ferrimagnetic glass-ceramics in the system Fe2O3-CaO-SiO2 for hyperthermia were investigated. Glasses could be prepared up to the content of 40 wt% of Fe2O3 and below the weight ratio of 1.0 of CaO/SiO2. The maximum saturation magnetization and the maximum coercive force were 29.85 emu/g and 340.1 Oe respectively, for a glass 40Fe2O3.20CaO.40SiO2 composition heat-treated at 95$0^{\circ}C$ for 8 hours. And for a glass 40Fe2O3.30CaO.30SiO2 composition the maximum saturation magnetization and the maximum coercive force were 18.47 emu/g and 374.4 Oe heat-treated at 1,00$0^{\circ}C$ and 90$0^{\circ}C$ for 8 hours respectively. The maximum hysteresis loss was 1,726.3 cal/g for a glass 40Fe2O3.20CaO.40SiO2 composition heat-treated at 95$0^{\circ}C$ for 8 hours. It was found that the ferrimagnetic Fe2O3.CaO.SiO2 glass-ceramics was little injurious to human body as results of biocompatibility test and biotoxicity test.

Densification and Thermo-Mechanical Properties of Al2O3-ZrO2(Y2O3) Composites

  • The microstructure of $ZrO_2$ toughened $Al_2O_3$ ceramics was carefully controlled so as to obtain dense and fine-grained ceramics, thereby improving the properties and reliability of the ceramics for capillary applications in semiconductor bonding technology. $Al_2O_3-ZrO_2(Y_2O_3)$ composite was produced via Ceramic Injection Molding (CIM) technology, followed by Sinter-HIP process. Room temperature strength, hardness, Young's modulus, thermal expansion coefficient and toughness were determined, as well as surface strengthening induced by the fine grained homogenous microstructure and the thermal treatment. The changes in alumina/zirconia grain size, sintering condition and HIP treatment were found to be correlated.

  • It was investigated that $Al_2$$O_3$/Cu nanocomposite powder could be optimally prepared by dispersion and reduction of Cu oxide, and suitably consolidated by employing pulse electric current sintering (PECS) process. $\alpha$-$Al_2$$O_3$ and CuO powders were used as elemental powders. In order to obtain $Al_2$O$_3$ embedded by finely and homogeneously dispersed CuO particles, the elemental powders were high energy ball milled at the rotating speed of 900 rpm, with the milling time varying up to 10 h. The milled powders were heat treated at $350^{\circ}C$ in H$_2$ atmosphere for 30 min to reduce CuO into Cu. The reduced powders were subsequently sintered by employing PECS process. The composites sintered at $1250^{\circ}C$ for 5 min showed the relative density of above 98%. The fracture toughness of the $Al_2$$O_3$/Cu nanocomposite was as high as 4.9MPa.$m^{1}$2//, being 1.3 times the value of pure $Al_2$$O_3$ sintered under the same condition.

  • Widely used dielectrics, barium titanate was promising material for ceramic capacitor. It was produced by specific formulation with various dopants-La2O3, ZrO2, SnO2, CaZrO3, CaTiO3, CaSnO3, Bi2O3, and etc.-according to demanded properties of capacitor. In this study, we would examinate the study of dielectric properties and temperatuer characteristics (T.C.) with the amount of Bi2O3. The sample was prepared with [BaTiO3]10+[BaZrO3, SnO2, La2O3, ZrO2]10 and Bi2O3 varied from 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5 to 3.0wt%. After milling and mixing for 15hrs, each sample was dried and then pressed at 700kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ into pellets. Pellets were fired at 131$0^{\circ}C$, for 3hrs in air. As the result of measurements, dielectric constant, break down voltage, and insulation resistance were increased with the amount of Bi2O3, and the resonant frequency was shifted from high frequency to low frequency range. In the case of temperature characteristics, capacitance change rate was symmetrically changed at -$25^{\circ}C$ and +85$^{\circ}C$ respectively. Therefore, it is recognized that the temperature characteristics can be moderated with doping Bi2O3 in our study.

(Bi2O3)0.85.(Nb2O5)0.15-6Bi2O3.SiO2계 복합다결정체의 미세구조와 광학적 특성 (Microstructures and Optical Properties of Composite Crystals in the System (Bi2O3)0.85.(Nb2O5)0.15-6Bi2O3.SiO2)

  • An eutectic melt in the system(Bi2O3)0.85·(Nb2O5)0.15-6Bi2O3·SiO2 was unidirectionally solidfield at a rate of 0.5mm/h under a thermal gradient of 100℃/cm. Double crucibles and seed crystal plate were used in order to botain the composite crystals which had uniform microstructure throughout the ingot. The obtained composite crystals showed uniform microstructure, in which needle-like δ-(Bi2O3)0.85·(Nb2O5)0.15 crystals were arrayed in parallel in a matrix of γ-6Bi2O3·SiO2 single crystal. It was found that the <110> direction of δ-(Bi2O3)0.85·(Nb2O5)0.15 crystal was essentially parallel to the <111> direction of γ-6Bi2O3·SiO2 crystal in the composite crystals. A transverse thin plate of the composite crystals showed a high resolution optical transmission like an optical fiber array, and sharp chatoyancy was observed in the cabochon shaped composite crystals. Then, this may be useful for applications such as screen of a cathode ray tube or artificial cat's eye gem stones.

Modeling of CeO2, Ce2O3, PrO2, and Pr2O3 in GGA+U formalism

  • The electronic structure and various physical properties of CeO2, Ce2O3, PrO2, and Pr2O3 have been studied from the framework of Ab-initio by the all-electron projector-augmented-wave (PAW) method, as implemented VASP (Vienna Ab-initio Simulation Package). The generalized gradient approximation (GGA) with effective U (Ueff) has been used to explain the strong on-site Coulomb repulsion among the localized Ce 4f electrons. The dependence of selected observables of these materials on the Ueff parameter has been scrutinized. The studied properties contain lattice constants, density of states, and reaction energies of CeO2, Ce2O3, PrO2, and Pr2O3. For CeO2 and PrO2, the GGA(PBE)+U results are in good agreement with experimental data whereas for the computational calculationally more demanding Ce2O3 and Pr2O3 both approaches give comparable accuracy. This results represent that by choosing an appropriate Ueff it is possible to reliably describe structural and electronic properties of CeO2, Ce2O3, PrO2, and Pr2O3, which enables modeling of oxygen reduction reaction processes involving ceria-based materials.

  • The thermal behavior of transformation and characteristics of seeded sample powders prepared by simultaneous $\alpha$-Al2O3 seed addition with water on the Al-sec-butoxide hydrolysis were studied. $\alpha$-Al2O3 seed particles are shown to act as nuclei for transformation of $\theta$-to $\alpha$-Al2O3 and to result in an increase in thetransformation kinetics and lowering of the transformation temperature by as much as 143$^{\circ}C$. Simultaneous seed addition on the hydrolysis resulted in uniform dispersin and creation of nucleation site on seed surface and only 0.1wt% seeding lowered the transformation temperature by as much as 115$^{\circ}C$. For 3wt% seed addition, $\alpha$-Al2O3 single phase was obtained at 95$0^{\circ}C$ for 100 minutes and the specific surface area of products were lowered to 11.9$m^2$/g as compared with that of $\alpha$-Al2O3 powder prepared without seed at 115$0^{\circ}C$ ; 15.1$m^2$/g due to depression of vermicular structure growth.
