  • The low loss single-mode $Al_{0.042}Ga_{0.958}As/GaAs/Al_{0.042}Ga_{0.958}As$ strip-loaded waveguides had been designed using an effective index method and fabricated using a MOCVD technique and chemical wet etching method. The propagation loss and facet reflectivity were measured by the Fabry-Perot resonance method and sequential cleaving experiment at $1.31{\mu}m$ wavelength. As a result, the propagation loss is as low as 0.62 dB/cm and the facet refiectivity(R) equals to 0.299 for straight waveguides with width $ w=4.1{\mu}m$..

Study on Sensitivity of Burst-Mode Optical Receiver Depending on Photodiode Capacitance (포토다이오드의 정전용량에 따른 버스트모드 광 수신소자의 수신감도 연구)

  • This study was carried out to commercialize FTTH by developing a burst mode optical receiver for E-PON. The optical receiver was manufactured by minimizing the capacitance of a photodiode to improve sensitivity for meeting 10, 20 km OLT Rx standard of E-PON at the transmission speed of 1.25 Gb/s. When bit-error ratio is $10^{-12}$ and PRBS is $2^5-1$, sensitivity is -26 dBm, loud/soft ratio is 23 dB. Both preamble time and guard time were set to 102.4 ns (128 bit). After comparing a photodiode whose capacitance is 0.53 pF with another photodiode whose capacitance has been minimized to 0.26 pF, we could see that sensitivity improved to 0.7 dBm and so did bandwidth to 190 MHz of burst mode for the optical receiver manufactured by the photodiode whose capacitance is 0.26 pF.

  • A switched-gain controlled LNA is designed and implemented in 0.18 um CMOS technology for $3.1{\sim}4.8\;GHz$ UWB system. In high gain mode, measurement shows a power gain of 12.5 dB, an input IP3 of 0 dBm, while consuming only 8.13 mA of current. In low gain mode, measurement shows a power gain of -8.7 dB, an input IP3 of 9.1 dBm, while consuming only 0 mA of current.

  • Recently, various simplified simulation techniques such as firite-difference beam propagation method and non-orthogonal coupled-mode theory have proposed to analyze the optical characteristics of tapered directional couplers supported by the coupling of two propagating modes. Although these approaches are often in sufficiently accurate, they do not provide the detailed solutions encountered in the analysis of tapered guiding structures. For this purpose, we introduce and utilize a newly developed modal transmission-line theory to analyze rigorously power transfer of the directional coupler. The numerical result reveals that the propagation constants of even and odd modes converge to a single value as increasing the spacer thickness between two symmetric tapered guides. Furthermore, 97% of the power incident into a guiding channel is transmitted to the other channel at the tapered angle ${\theta}=0.1^{\circ}$, and the efficiency of power transfer decreases dramatically as increasing the angle.

  • Polarization-independent $Ti:LiNbO_3\;2{\times}2$ optical add/drop multiplexer for the 1550nm wavelength region is fabricated. The device consists of two input waveguides, two polarization beam splitters. two polarization conversion/electrooptic tuning waveguide sections, and two output waveguides. The single mode channel waveguides for both TE and TM polarizations are fabricated on a x-cut $Ti:LiNbO_3$substrate by Ti diffusion. Spectral section is based on phase-matched polarization conversion due to shear strain induced by a thick $SiO_2$ grating overlay film. An applied voltage tunes the device by changing the waveguide birefringence, hence the optical wavelength at which most efficient polarization conversion occurs. Tuning rate of 0.094nm/V with a maximum range of 17nm has been obtained. The nearest side-lobe is about 8.2dB. The FWHM is 3.72nm.

Design of a high performance 32*32-bit multiplier based on novel compound mode logic and sign select booth encoder (새로운 복합 모드 로직과 사인 선택 Booth 인코더를 이용한 고성능 32*32-bit 곱셈기의 설계)

  • 본 논문에서는 CMOS 로직과 pass-transistor logic(PTL)의 장점만을 가진 새로운 복합모드로직(Compound Mode Logic)을 제안하였다. 제안된 로직은 VLSI설계에서 중요하게 부각되고 있는 저전력, 고속 동작이 가능하며 실제로 전가산기를 설계하여 측정 한 결과 복합모드 로직의 power-delay 곱은 일반적인 CMOS로직에 비해 약 22% 개선되었다 제안한 복합모드 로직을 이용하여 고성능 32×32-bit 곱셈기를 설계 제작하였다. 본 논문의 곱셈기는 개선된 사인선택(Sign Select) Booth 인코더, 4-2 및 9-2 압축기로 구성된 데이터 압축 블록, 그리고 carry 생성 블록을 분리한 64-bit 조건 합 가산기로 구성되어 있다. 0.6um 1-poly 3-metal CMOS 공정을 이용하여 제작된 32×32-bit 곱셈기는 28,732개의 트랜지스터와 1.59×l.68 ㎜2의 면적을 가졌다. 측정 결과 32×32-bit 곱셈기의 곱셈시간은 9.8㎱ 이었으며, 3.3V 전원 전압에서 186㎽의 전력 소모를 하였다.

  • 본 논문에서는 영전류 모드로 진입한 zero voltage transition(ZVT) interleaved bi-direction low voltage DC-DC converter(IB-LDC)의 도통 손실을 최소화하기 위한 위상 제어가 제안된다. IB-LDC의 출력단 배터리가 완충되어 영전류 모드로 진입하면 IB-LDC의 입 출력 평균 전류는 0[A]로 감소하지만 보조 회로 전류는 기존의 설계 값에 의해 감소하지 않아 지속적인 도통 손실을 일으킨다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 영전류 모드로 진입한 IB-LDC의 보조 회로에 ZVT 조건을 만족시키는 공진 전류만 흐르도록 하여 도통 손실을 최소화하는 위상 제어를 제안하였다. 또한 PSIM simulation 및 실험을 통해 증명하였다.

Simulating a Time Reversal Process for A0 Lamb Wave Mode on a Rectangular Plate Using a Virtual Sensor Array Model (가상 탐지자 배열 모델을 이용한 직사각형 판에서 A0 램파 모드 시간반전과정 모사)

  • This paper presents the analysis of a time reversal process for $A_0$ Lamb wave mode($A_0$ mode) on a rectangular plate. The dispersion characteristic equation of the $A_0$ mode is approximated using the Timoshenko beam theory. A virtual sensor array model is developed to consider the effects of reflections occurring on the plate boundary on the time reversal process. The time reversal process is formulated in the frequency domain using the virtual sensor array model. The reconstructed signal is obtained in the time domain through an inverse fast Fourier transform. The validity of the proposed method is demonstrated through the comparison to the numerical simulation results computed by the finite element analysis.

  • In this paper, the corrugated horn antenna used in the reflector feed horn of satellite is analyzed using the modal expansion method. The modal expansion method is represented by the summations of modals at each point so the exact prediction of field and phase patterns can be obtained. The least number of iterations to compute field patterns is proposed. By using this number. calculation of accurate near and far field patterns without comsuming a lot of computational effort is available. Three kinds of corrugated horn antenna is designed to verify the method and experimented. The VSWR of designed frequency is from 1.04 to 1.1. The input impedance is nearly matched to $50\Omega$.

Coding Efficiency Improvement for Identical Motion Information of Bi-prediction Mode within the GPB Slcice of HEVC (HEVC의 GPB 슬라이스에서 양예측 모드의 동일 움직임 정보에 대한 성능 향상 방안)

  • This paper proposes the method which reduces complexity and improves coding efficiency by solving a problem of HEVC bi-prediction. In current HM 3.0, it is frequently occurred that L0 motion information and L1 motion information are identical in blocks which are bi-predicted. In this case, L1 motion vector is replaced by non-zero motion vector which belongs to first available neighbor block of current block. If they are still identical, prediction mode is replaced by uni-prediction. As an experimental result, in LD(Low-Delay) case, decoding time is reduced roughly 2%~5% and coding gain is roughly 0.3%~0.5% compared with the HM 3.0 anchor.
