역미셀을 이용한 감마-알루미나 나노입자 합성에 대한 통계적 분석 (Statistical Analysis of Synthesis of Gamma-alumina (γ-Al2O3) Nanoparticles Using Reverse Micelles)

  • 역미셀법을 이용하여 열적 안정성이 우수한 감마-알루미나의 합성 공정을 최적화하기 위하여 실험계획법을 사용하였다. 먼저 합성공정에 주 요소인 계면활성제, 물 및 오일의 비에 대한 최적의 실험조건을 설계하기 위하여 혼합물 실험법을 이용하여 12가지 실험조건을 도출하였다. 설계된 조건에서 역미셀법을 이용하여 합성한 입자를 $900^{\circ}C$에서 소성한 결과 입자의 크기에 차이는 있었지만 모두 감마-알루미나 결정구조를 가졌다. 도출된 실험결과를 이용하여 계산된 2차 회귀모델의 결정계수는 93.68%이었으며, P- 값이 0.002로서 유의하다고 할 수 있다. 다양한 입자크기를 가지는 감마-알루미나의 합성조건을 모든 범위에서 대하여 표면도와 등고선도를 이용하여 제시하였다. 그 결과 Surfactant/Water/Oil의 질량비가 0.3450/0.0729/0.5821인 조건에서 합성할 때 약 2.8 nm의 가장 작은 입자가 합성되는 것으로 계산되었다.

Assaying of SNM using Simultaneous Detection of Fission Neutrons and Gammas by Employing a Novel Phoswich Detector

  • For the precise measurements of special nuclear materials (SNM) including Pu and Am isotopes, we have used phoswich detector combination of two single crystal scintillators of Gd3Ga3Al2O12:Ce and CsI:Tl. High detection efficiency and sensitivity along with high figure of merit for the discrimination of these phoswich detectors ensures the detection and discrimination of thermal neutrons and gammas from spontaneous fission of Pu and other isotopes in presence of high gamma background. Using this detector, the low energy gammas, which is stopped completely in 1mm thick disc of GGAG, can be also discriminated from high energies gamma and shows linearity in wide range of sample quantities. By changing only the appropriate shielding, the similar setup was used for thermal neutron detection and shows a very good linearity over wide range. The quantity of a test sample was also calculated accurately by using the measured calibrated plot.

염화알미늄 증기의 부분가수분해를 통한 알파 알루미나 나노입자 제조 (Synthesis of ${\alpha}$-Alumina Nanoparticles Through Partial Hydrolysis of Aluminum Chloride Vapor)

  • 500 mL 교반탱크반응기 내에서 $AlCl_3$ 증기를 $H_2O$ 증기에 의해 부분 가수분해시켜 30~200 nm 크기의 $AlO_xCl_y(OH)_z$로 표시되는 구형의 알루미나 전구체 입자를 제조하였다. 반응시간, 교반속도, 반응온도가 생성된 입자의 형상, 크기 등에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 반응시간을 20, 60, 300 s로 변화시킨 결과 생성 입자의 형상 및 크기에 별다른 차이가 없었으며, 교반속도를 0, 300, 800 rpm으로 변화시킨 결과 0 rpm에서 입자의 크기가 최대값을 보였고, 반응온도를 180, 190, 200, $240^{\circ}C$로 변화시킨 결과 $190^{\circ}C$에서 제조된 입자의 크기가 가장 작게 나타났다. 가수분해 생성물 입자를 $10^{\circ}C$/min의 속도로 $1,200^{\circ}C$까지 가열하고 6 시간동안 하소시켜 45 nm 크기의 ${\alpha}$ 알루미나 입자를 얻었다. 하소과정에서 인접입자 사이의 소결에 의해 입자 형상이 구형에서 벌레모양으로 변환되었다. 하소온도를 $1,400^{\circ}C$로, 승온속도를 $50^{\circ}C$/min 로 증가시키고, 유지시간을 0.5 시간으로 감소시켜 급속 하소시킴으로써 인접입자의 소결을 상당히 감소시킬 수 있었다. $AlCl_3$의 가수분해 과정에서 소량의 $SiCl_4$ 또는 TMCTS(2,4,6,8-tetramethylcylosiloxane) 첨가에 의해 인접입자의 소결 방지 효과가 나타났으나, ${\alpha}$ 결정 이외에 ${\gamma}$ 결정, mullite 결정 등이 함께 생성되었다. 하소과정에서 $AlF_3$를 첨가한 결과 육각형 디스크 형상의 ${\alpha}$ 알루미나 입자가 생성되었다.

  • The synthesis and regioselective reactions of a chiral allyl sulfide. (S)-(+)-(1-methylpyrrolidin-2-yl)methyl allyl sulfide (MAS, 1) are described. Remarkable ${\alpha}-regioselectivity$ was observed in the alkylation of the carbanion of MAS while 1:3 mixtures of ${\alpha}-and\;{\gamma}-adducts$ were produced in the addition of the MAS anion to aldehydes. However, a dramatic change of the regioselectivity was witnessed when Lewis acids such as $Et_3Al$, $Et_3B$, and $Ti(O^iPr)_4$ were used as additives in the addition reaction. In these cases, ${\alpha}-adducts$ were formed exclusively. A rationale for the change of regioselectivity is provided. And the stereochemical aspect of the addition reaction is also described.

Radiation shielding properties of weathered soils: Influence of the chemical composition and granulometric fractions

  • Soils are porous materials with high shielding capability to attenuate gamma and X-rays. The disposal of radionuclides throughout the soil profile can expose the living organisms to ionizing radiation. Thus, studies aiming to analyze the shielding properties of the soils are of particular interest for radiation shielding. Investigations on evaluating the shielding capabilities of highly weathered soils are still scarce, meaning that additional research is necessary to check their efficiency to attenuate radiation. In this study, the radiation shielding properties of contrasting soils were evaluated. The radiation interaction parameters assessed were attenuation coefficients, mean free path, and half- and tenth-value layers. At low photon energies, the photoelectric absorption contribution to the attenuation coefficient predominated, while at intermediate and high photon energies, the incoherent scattering and pair production were the dominant effects. Soils with the highest densities presented the best shielding properties, regardless of their chemical compositions. Increases in the attenuation coefficient and decreases in shielding parameters of the soils were associated with increases in clay, Fe2O3, Al2O3, and TiO2 amounts. In addition, this paper provides a comprehensive description of the shielding properties of weathered soils showing the importance of their granulometric fractions and oxides to the attenuation of the radiation.

Ring-Opening Metathesis Polymerization and Hydrogenation of Ethyl-substituted Tetracyclododecene

  • Ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) of an ethyl-substituted tetracyclododecene (8-ethyltetracyclo[$4.4.0.1^{2,5}.1^{7,10}$] dodec-3-ene, Et-TCD) was carried out in the presence of a ternary catalyst system consisting of $WCl_6$, triisobutyl aluminium (iso$Bu_3Al$), and ethanol. The optimal molar ratio of Et-TCD/$WCl_3$/iso-$Bu_3Al$/ethanol was found as 500/1/3/2 at which the yield of ring-opened polymer was 100%. 1-Hexene was shown to be an effective molecular weight controlling agent for ROMP reaction of Et-TCD. The hydrogenation of the ring opened polymer (p-Et-TCD) was conducted successfully using Pd(5 wt %)/${\gamma}$-$Al_2O_3$ at $80^{\circ}C$ for 1 h. Chemical structures of p-Et-TCD and its hydrogenated product($H_2$-p-Et-TCD) were characterized using 2D NMR techniques ($^1H-^1H$ COSY and $^1H-^{13}C$ HSQC). The changes of physical properties such as thermal stability, glass transition temperature and light transmittance after the hydrogenation were also investigated using TGA, DSC, and UV.

수열특성 및 기계적 안정성의 개선으로 슬러리상 CSTR에 적합한 P 첨가 알루미나 기반의 Fischer-Tropsch 합성용 코발트 촉매 (Phosphorus Modified Co/Al2O3 Fischer-Tropsch Catalyst for a Slurry Phase CSTR with Enhanced Hydrothermal and Mechanical Stability)

  • Fischer-Tropsch 합성용 Co/$Al_2O_3$ 촉매에서 알루미나 지지체에 인산 용액으로 알루미나 표면을 개질하여 촉매적 활성은 물론이고, 기계적 강도와 수열 안정성을 개선하였다. FT-IR과 같은 촉매 표면 분석법을 통하여 P 첨가로 알루미나 표면에 $AlPO_4$ 상이 생성되어 촉매인 코발트와 지지체인 알루미나 사이의 상호작용이 약화되어 촉매의 환원도가 높아졌음을 보였다. 이에 따른 촉매성능을 평가하기 위하여 $C_{5+}$ productivity와 turnover frequency를 계산하였다. 또한, 2 wt.% P 첨가 알루미나를 대상으로 지지체의 소성온도가 촉매활성에 미치는 영향도 살펴보았다. 한편, 고온 가압 하에서 물을 이용하여 P 첨가 알루미나(P-알루미나)를 지지체로 한 촉매의 수열 특성을 살펴보았으며, 실험 전후의 XRD 패턴을 분석함으로써 P 첨가 알루미나 기반 촉매가 수열 안정성이 우수하다는 것을 증명하였다. 뿐만 아니라, 촉매의 기계적 강도를 측정하기 위하여 유동화 반응기를 직접 제작하여 P-알루미나 기반 촉매의 P 함량이 증가할수록 마모도가 감소함을 확인하였다. 촉매 활성, 수열 안정성, 그리고 기계적 강도를 모두 고려하면, 알루미나에 첨가된 P의 함량이 1~2 wt.% 이고, 지지체를 $500^{\circ}C$에서 소성하여 제조한 촉매가 가장 좋은 성능을 보였다.

치과용 아말감의 미세경도에 관한 실험적연구 (AN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON THE MICROHARDNESS OF DENTAL AMALGAMS)

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the phases of four different types, low-copper lathe cut (Type II, class 1) and spherical (Type II, class 2) amalgam alloys which are made by Caulk company and high copper Dispersalloy (Type II, class 3) made by Johnson & Johnson and Tytin (Type I, class 2) made by S.S. White and to determine the Vickers hardness number on the individual phase and four different types of dental amalgam. After each amalgam alloy and Hg measured exactly by the balance was triturated by the mechanical amalgamator (De Trey), the triturated mass was inserted into the cylindrical metal mold which was 4 mm in diameter and 12mm in height and was pressed by the Instron Universal Testing machine (Model 1125) at the speed of 1mm/minute with 143$kg/cm^2$ according to the A.D.A. Specification No. 1. The Specimen removed from the mold, mounted and stored in the room temperature for 7 days. The speciman was polished with the emery paper from #220 to #1200 and finally on the polishing cloth with 0.3 and 0.05 um $Al_2O_3$ powder suspended in water. And then each specimen was etched by Allan's method and washed with Sodium Bisulfinite for 30 seconds. Finally differentiation and metallography on each phase were obtained by using metallographical microscope (Versamet, Union) and microhardness was obtained by using microhardness tester (MVH-2, Torsee). The results were as follows: 1. In the low-copper amalgam, the ${\gamma}$, ${\gamma}_1$ and ${\gamma}_2$ phase were observed and in the high-copper amalgam, the ${\gamma}$, ${\gamma}_1$. ${\epsilon}$ and ${\eta}$ phases were observed but ${\gamma}_2$ phase was not observed. 2. Among the microhardness of each amalgam phase measured under pressing a vickers diamond indenter with 2.0gm load for 30 seconds, e phase has the highest V.H.N (314 ${\pm}$ 20), and in low-copper amalgam 12 phase has the lowest V.H.N. (29${\pm}$1) and ${\eta}$ phase which was observed in high-copper amalgam has 230${\pm}$13 V.H.N and this phase is considerd to contribute to strengthen the handness in amalgam. 3. The V.H.N. measured under pressing a Vickers diamond indenter with 300.0gm load for 30 seconds in low-copper amalgam was lower than that of high-copper amalgam.

CVD 법으로 제조한 실리카 막의 Ga 염 첨가에 따른 스팀안정성 및 기체투과특성 (Gas Permeation and Steam Stability of Ga Salt Doped Silica Membrane by Chemical Vapor Deposition)

  • 본 연구에서는 CVD법으로 세라믹 막을 제조하였다. 튜브의 ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ 지지체 위에 Ga 염이 첨가된 ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$를 코팅하였고, 실란화합물인 tetramethylorthosilane (TMOS) 를 $650^{\circ}C$에서 화학적 기상 증착법으로 막에 증착하였다. 제조된 세라믹 막을 사용하여 수소, 질소, 이산화탄소, 메탄의 단일조성 기체투과 실험을 $600^{\circ}C$에서 시행하였다. Ga 염 비첨가 시, $600^{\circ}C$ 수분 처리 실험의 $H_2/N_2$ 선택도가 926에서 829로 감소한 반면, Ga 염 첨가 시에는 910에서 904로 안정하였다. 이 결과를 통해, 막에 금속염을 첨가하여 제조한 막이 수분 안정성을 향상시킴을 확인하였다.

평판형 접촉연소식 마이크로 수소센서의 감지특성 향상 (Improved hydrogen sensing characteristics of flat type catalytic combustible hydrogen gas sensor of micro-structure)

  • Flat type catalytic combustible hydrogen sensors were fabricated using platinum micro-heaters and sensing material pastes. The platinum micro-heater was formed on an alumina substrate by sputtering method. The paste for the sensing materials was prepared using ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ 30 wt%, $SnO_2$ 35 wt%, and Pd/Pt 30 wt% and coated on the platinum micro-heater. The sensing performances were tested for the prepared sensors with different substrate sizes. The micro catalytic combustible hydrogen sensors showed quick response time, high reliability, and good selectivity against various gases(CO, $C_3H_8,\;CH_4$) at low operating temperature of $156^{\circ}\C$.
