  • Two types of CoMo/zeolite as well as $NiMo/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ were prepared and their activities and selectivities of low-temperature dibenzothiophene(DBT) hydrodesulfurization(HDS) were studied in high pressure fixed bed reactor. The HDS activities of CoMo/zeolites were higher than that of $NiMo/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ at temperatures below $225^{\circ}C$ while they were lower than that of $NiMo/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ at temperatures higher than $275^{\circ}C$. The main products from $NiMo/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ were biphenyl and cyclohexylbenzene. The product distribution of CoMo/zeolite catalysts was different from that of $NiMo/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$. It is speculated that DBT is converted to alkylcyclohexane over zeolite based catalysts through both alkylation and hydrogenation reactions. The crystal structure of molybdenum was $MoO_3$ in fresh zeolite support while mixtures of $MoO_3$ and $MoS_2$ were observed in the aged catalyst.

  • Y-zeolite and ${\gamma}$-Al$_2$O$_3$ were used as supports on CO and $C_3$H$_{6}$ oxidation for diesel emission control. The catalysts composed of Pd and Pt as active components were wash coated on honeycomb type ceramic substrate. The oxidation of CO and $C_3$H$_{6}$ was carried out over prepared honeycomb in a fixed bed continuous reactor in the temperature range of 20$0^{\circ}C$~50$0^{\circ}C$ and 20,000 GHSV (h$^{-1}$ ). Surface area of Y-zeolite was larger than that of ${\gamma}$-Al$_2$O$_3$ due to channel structure of Y-zeolite. Therefore, high conversion of CO and $C_3$H$_{6}$ could be obtained because of good dispersion of active metals over Y-zeolite. The honeycomb used Y-zeolite as a support showed higher $C_3$H$_{6}$ conversion than that of ${\gamma}$-Al$_2$O$_3$ due to better cracking and isomerization activity of Y-zeolite. PdPt catalyst showed high conversion of CO and $C_3$H$_{6}$ at low temperature region, 20$0^{\circ}C$~30$0^{\circ}C$, for their synergy effects. PdPt/Y-Zeolite catalyst could achieve more than 80% conversion of $C_3$H$_{6}$ at 30$0^{\circ}C$. The use of Y-zeolite as a support increased CO and $C_3$H$_{6}$ conversion, and decreased SO$_2$ conversion very effectively. Y-zeolite found to have a good adaptability as a support for the diesel emission after treatment system.

  • Characteristics, such as the support limit and distortions, of minimum mean-squared error (MSE) N-level uniform and nonuniform scalar quantizers are studied for the family of the generalized gamma density functions as N increases. For the study, MSE-optimal scalar quantizers are designed at integer rates from 1 to 16 bits/sample, and their characteristics are compared with corresponding asymptotic formulas. The results show that the support limit formulas are generally accurate. They also show that the distortion of nonuniform quantizers is observed to converge to the Panter-Dite asymptotic constant, whereas the distortion of uniform quantizers exhibits slow or even stagnant convergence to its corresponding Hui-Neuhoff asymptotic constant at the studied rate range, though it may stay at a close proximity to the asymptotic constant for the Rayleigh and Laplacian pdfs. Additional terms in the asymptote result in quite considerable accuracy improvement, making the formulas useful especially when rate is 8 or greater.

  • In simulation-based circuit optimization, many simulation runs may be wasted while evaluating infeasible designs, i.e. the designs that do not meet the constraints. To avoid such a waste, this paper investigates the use of support vector machine (SVM) classifiers in predicting the design's feasibility prior to simulation and the optimal selection of the SVM parameters, namely, the Gaussian kernel shape parameter ${\gamma}$ and the misclassification penalty parameter C. These parameters affect the complexity as well as the accuracy of the model that SVM represents. For instance, the higher ${\gamma}$ is good for detailed modeling and the higher C is good for rejecting noise in the training set. However, our empirical study shows that a low ${\gamma}$ value is preferable due to the high spatial correlation among the circuit design candidates while C has negligible impacts due to the smooth and clean constraint boundaries of most circuit designs. The experimental results with an LC-tank oscillator example show that an optimal selection of these parameters can improve the prediction accuracy from 80 to 98% and model complexity by $10{\times}$.

  • The materials composed of the 3d series transition metals are introduced into the hydrocarbon steam-reforming reaction in order to enhance the $H_2$ production and abruptly depress the catalytic deactivation resulting from the strong sintering between the Ni component and the ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ support. The conventional impregnation method is used to synthesize the Ni/3d series metal/${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ materials through the sequentially loading Ni source and the 3d series metal (Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Cu, and Zn) sources onto the ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ support. The Mnloaded material exhibits a significantly higher reforming reactivity than the conventional Ni/${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ and the other Ni/3d series metal/${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ materials. Particularly the addition of Mn selectively improves the $H_2$ product selectivity by eliminating the formation of $CH_4$ and CO. The $H_2$ production is maximized at a value of 95% over Ni(0.3)/Mn(0.3)/${\gamma}-Al_2O_4$(1.0) with a butane conversion of 100% above $750^{\circ}C$ for up to 55 h.

  • The ${\gamma}/{\gamma}^{\prime}$ two-phases, commonly known as a eutectic structure, are observed in the ${\gamma}$ interdendritic region of a Ni-base superalloy. However, the growth behavior of the ${\gamma}/{\gamma}^{\prime}$ two-phases, whether it is of eutectic or peritectic nature, has not been decidedly established. Directional solidifications were, thus, performed with the planar interface at a low growth rate of $0.5{\mu}m/s$ in order to promote macro segregation. Directional solidification started with the ${\gamma}$ planar interface and the ${\gamma}^{\prime}$ phase nucleated on the ${\gamma}$ planar interface at the solidification fraction of 0.75. The ${\gamma}/{\gamma}^{\prime}$ two-phases showed the ${\gamma}^{\prime}$ rod structure as major phase and the ${\gamma}$ minor phase between ${\gamma}^{\prime}$ rods, and the volume fraction of the ${\gamma}$ phase changed continuously with an increasing solidification fraction. The two-phase ${\gamma}/{\gamma}^{\prime}$ is seen as the coupled peritectic.

  • Since the discovery of the muscle spindle by Hassall (1831), an intensive studies of its anatomical and physiological characteristics had been undertaken. Recent morphological studies of Boyd (1962) demonstrated that the muscle spindles have two different intrafusal muscle fibers, nuclear bag and nuclear chain fiber, and these intrafusal fibers are under independent motor innervation by ${\gamma}_1$ and ${\gamma}_2$ motor neurone. Neurophysiological studies of Hunt and Kuffler (1951) showed regulatory effect of ${\gamma}$ motor neurone upon the excitability of the spindle afferents. Harvey and Mathews (1961) observed the dynamic and static characteristics of the two different spindle afferents, the primary and secondary ending. Furthermore, Mathews (1962) postulated the functional existance of two kind of ${\gamma}$ motor neurones, namely, the dynamic and static fusimotor fiber. Recent report of Kim and Partridge(1969) pointed out that the descending vestibular signals had increased the slope of the length-tension relationship in stretch reflex; Kim (1967) demonstrated that the descending vestibular impulses act upon the stretch reflex loop through the ${\gamma}$ motor pathway. These experimental evidences from the morphological and neurophysiological studies on the muscle spindles support the concept that the stretch reflex action of the skeletal muscle operates as a negative feedback control system. The author had discussed the way by which the f system participates in the control of stretch relfex feed back system. that was taken for a prototype of posture and movement.

  • Supported lead oxide catalysts were prepared by using ${\alpha}-,{\beta}-{\gamma}$-alumina, and MgO as a support. Among the supported lead oxide catalysts, MgO-supported catalyst showed the highest $C_2^+$ hydrocarbon selectivity for the methane conversion into $C_2^+$ hydrocarbons, but ${\gamma}$-alumina-supported PbO catalyst gave the highest $CO_2$ selectivity. And ${\alpha}$-alumina-supported catlyst showed the midium activity, whereas ${\beta}$-alumina-supported catalyst gave little activity. These reaction characteristics seemed to be largely dependent on the acticity of lattice oxygens in supported catalysts, which would be influnto be largely dependent on the activity of lattice oxygens in supported catalysts, which would be influenced in the interaction between the supports and lead oxides and the properties of supports. Especially, much higher ration of (002)/(111) peak intensities for PbO phase on MgO support than on the other supports in X-ray diffraction analysis was considered to be ab evidence that methane oxidative coupling of methane might be so-called structure-sensitive reaction, and this seemed to be an example of surface oxide-support interaction (SOSI) in the oxidative coupling reaction.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to construct and test a structural equation model on resilience of breast cancer patients receiving chemotherapy. Methods: Participants were 204 patients with breast cancer who received chemotherapy treatment. They participated in a structured interview, which included social support, depression, symptom experience, self-efficacy, hope, resilience, and infection prevention behaviors. Data were analyzed using SPSS/WIN 20.0 and AMOS 18.0. Results: Lower depression (${\gamma}=-.33$, p=.020) and symptom experience (${\gamma}=-.31$, p=.012) and higher self-efficacy (${\gamma}=.32$, p=.005) and hope (${\gamma}=.48$, p=.016) were influenced by higher social support. Greater resilience was influenced by lower symptom experience (${\beta}=-.18$, p=.016), higher self-efficacy (${\beta}=.49$, p=.023), and higher hope (${\beta}=.46$, p=.012), and these predictors explained 66.7% of variance in resilience. Greater resilience (${\beta}=.54$, p =.009) made an impact on greater infection prevention behaviors. Resilience mediated the relations of symptom experience (${\beta}=-.10$ p=.013), self-efficacy (${\beta}=.27$, p=.006) and hope (${\beta}=.25$, p=.009) with infection prevention behaviors. These predictors explained 24.9% of variance in infection prevention behaviors. Conclusion: The findings of the study suggest that breast cancer patients with greater resilience who are receiving chemotherapy participate in increased infection prevention behaviors. Further research should be conducted to seek intervention strategies that improve breast cancer patients' resilience.
