Electromagnetic Wave Characteristics of $\textrm{Al}_2\textrm{O}_3$ Woven-Fabric Composites ($\textrm{Al}_2\textrm{O}_3$ Woven-fabric 복합재료의 전자파특성)

  • Recently, GFRP is well known as a structural material for the radome of aircraft. In this paper, we have observed the reflectivity of electromagnetic waves on GFRP reinforced with $\textrm{Al}_2\textrm{O}_3$ woven fabric. The result of the experiment has revealed that the reflectivity of $\textrm{Al}_2\textrm{O}_3$/GFRP composites is remarkably reduced compared with that of GFRP. And it also shows that the electromagnetic wave reflections are greatly influenced by the number of $\textrm{Al}_2\textrm{O}_3$ plies in a specific frequency band. These results are expected to be utilized for the technique of manufacturing a low-reflectivity composite structure.

  • The change of phosphorescent property with chemical modification and co-doping of Nd as an auxiliary activator in CaAl$_2$$O_4$: Eu\ulcorner, Nd\ulcorner phosphor, employing Nd\ulcornerion(0.6%) and an co-activator maintained its afterglow for 4.5 hours. And also the initial persistent brightness and phosphorescent property were further improved both by substituting Al by B atoms and incorporation of Nd\ulcorner ion. It was found that the persistent time was 30 hours for&Ca(Al_{0.97}\;B_{0.03}) $_2$$O_4$:EU\ulcorner(0.3%), Nd\ulcorner(0.6%) phosphor.

Effect of Composition of Bond Coating on the Durability of the Plasma Sprayed $\textrm{ZrO}_2$-$\textrm{CeO}_2$-$\textrm{Y}_2\textrm{O}_3$ Thermal Barrier Coating (금속결합층의 조성이 $\textrm{ZrO}_2$-$\textrm{CeO}_2$-$\textrm{Y}_2\textrm{O}_3$ 단열층의 내구성에 미치는 영향)

  • The effect of alloy compositions of the bond coating on the plasma sprayed-thermal barrier coatings was investigated. The performance of the coating composed of Rene80/NiCrAl/ZrO$_2$-CeO$_2$-Y$_2$O$_3$ and Rene80/CoNiCrAlY/ZrO$_2$-CeO$_2$-Y$_2$O$_3$was evaluated by isothermal and thermal cyclic test in an ambient atmosphere at 115$0^{\circ}C$. The failure of Rene80/NiCrAl/ZrO$_2$-CeO$_2$-Y$_2$O$_3$ coatings was occurred at the bond coating/ceramic coating interface while Rene80/CoNiCrAlY/ZrO$_2$-CeO$_2$-Y$_2$O$_3$ coating was failed at the substrate/bond coating interface after thermal cyclic test. The lifetime of Rene80/NiCrAl/ZrO$_2$-CeO$_2$-Y$_2$O$_3$coatings was longer than Rene80/CoNiCrAlY/ZrO$_2$-CeO$_2$-Y$_2$O$_3$coating. The oxidation rate of the NiCrAl bond coating examined by TGA was lower than CoNiCrAlY bond coatings. In summary, these results suggest that Rene80/CoNiCrAlY/ZrO$_2$-CeO$_2$-Y$_2$O$_3$system as thermal barrier coating be not suitable considering the durability of the coating layer for high temperature oxidation and thermal stress.

A Study on Fe ions in the $\textrm{CdFe}_2\textrm{O}_4$ and $\textrm{CdFeAlO}_4$ by Mossbauer Spectroscopy (Mossbauer분광법을 이용한 $\textrm{CdFe}_2\textrm{O}_4$$\textrm{CdFeAlO}_4$의 Fe 이온에 관한 연구)

  • The properties of Fe ions in the $ CdFe_2$$O_4$ and $CdFeAlO_4$ were investigated using the Mossbauer spectroscopy, in the temperature range from 300K to 900K. The calculated Debye temperature, recoil free fraction, mean square displacement and velocity are, 476.5K, 0.835, 3.39$\times$10\ulcorner$\textrm{cm}^2$, and 1.11$\times$10\ulcorner$\textrm{cm}^2$sec$^2$for Fe ions in the $CdFe_2$$O_4$ and 369.0K, 0.741, 5.65$\times$10\ulcorner$\textrm{cm}^2$ and 1.33$\times$10\ulcorner$\textrm{cm}^2$/$sec^2$in the $CeFeAlO_4$. The difference of the properties in the two samples were explained by the variation of the Fe\ulcorner-O\ulcorner bonding length with the substituted Al ions.

Preparation of Porous $Al_2O_3$-AIN-Mullite and $Al_2O_3$-AIN-SiC

  • Porous composite of $Al_2O_3$ and AIN based mullite and SiC can be prepared by alumium reaction synthesis and atmosphere controllied sintering in order to improve the durability of a gas filter body. The porous $Al_2O_3$-AIN-mullite, which has a strength of 168 kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and porosity of 51.59%, could be obtained by stmospheric firing at $1600^{\circ}C$ and the porous $Al_2O_3$-AIN-SiC with a porosity of 33% and strength of 977 kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$, could also be prepared. The average pore size has been changed from 0.2$\mu\textrm{m}$ in a reduction atmosphere and to 2$\mu\textrm{m}$ in an air atmosphere, respectively.

Effect of Particle Size on the Characterization of Plasma Sprayed $Al_2O_3$ Coating Layer (플라즈마 용사된 $Al_2O_3$층의 특성에 미치는 입자크기의 영향)

  • An objective of this study is to compare the characteristics of coating layer of plasma sprayed fine $Al_2O_3$ and those of layer by commercial $Al_2O_3$(Metco 105). The microstructure of fine $Al_2O_3$ coating layer was denser compared with commercial $Al_2O_3$ coating layer. The surface roughness$(R_a)$ of the layer by the fine $Al_2$O$_3$ was lower compared with that of commercial $Al_2O_3$. Thickness of splat for fine $Al_2O_3$ was $1.4\mu\textrm{m}$ while the commercial $Al_2O_3$ was $3.53\mu\textrm{m}$. The main phase existing in coating layer was of $\gamma-Al_2O_3$ and the fraction of $\alpha-Al_2O_3$ in fine $Al_2O_3$ coating layer was 8.39% and that of commercial $Al_2O_3$ was 13.79%. Microhardness was no great difference between the fine and commercial $Al_2O_3$ but deviation of the fine $Al_2O_3$ coating layer was relatively large. Accordingly, the strength of splat of the coating was expected that fine $Al_2O_3$was lower than commercial $Al_2O_3$ powder.

Effects of Al Doping on Sinterabllity and Microstructure in $UO_2-6wt%Gd_2O_3$ Pellets ($UO_2-6wt%Gd_2O_3$ 소결체에서 Al 첨가가 소결성 및 미세조직에 미치는 영향)

  • The sinterability and the microstructure of Al doped UO$_2$-6wt%Gd$_2$O$_3$pellets, which were doped using Al(OH)$_3$, ADS(aluminium distearate), Al(OH)$_3$+ ADS mixture and sintered at 1$700^{\circ}C$ for 4h in H$_2$, atmospheres, were examined. The sintered densities of Al doped UO$_2$-6wt%Gd$_2$O$_3$pellets were more than 94% T.D.. The open porosity in ADS doped pellets was dramatically decreased. And the amounts of pores less than l${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and larger than 10${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ were decreased regardless of the kinds of doped Al compounds. And the average pore size of Al doped UO$_2$-6wt%Gd$_2$O$_3$pellets was ranged between 2 and 3${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. While grain structure of non-doped UO$_2$-6wt%Gd$_2$O$_3$pellets was revealed to be duplex type (rocks in sands), that of Al doped pellets to be uniformly equiaxid type. Especially, the grain size in ADS doped pellets was averaged to 4.6${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$.

Effect of Nb, V and Cr on the High Temperature Oxidation of Ti-(42, 44)% Al Alloys (Ti-(42, 44)%Al 합금의 고온내산화성에 미치는 Nb, V 및 Cr의 영향)

  • Alloys of TiAl with six different compositions. i. e., Ti-(42, 44)Al-2Nb-4V. Ti-(42, 44)Al-4Nb-2V and Ti -(42, 44)Al-4Nb-2Cr, were manufactured by arc-melting. and their oxidation behavior was studied. Both isothermal and cyclic oxidation tests were performed at 700, 800 and $900^{\circ}C$ in air for 50hr. The oxidation resistance increased in the order of Ti-(42, 44)Al-2Nb-4V, Ti-(42, 44)Al-4Nb-ZV and Ti-(42, 44)Al-4Nb-2Cr. It was found that V was a deleterious element, while Cr was a beneficial element in terms of oxidation resistance. During oxidation, a simultaneous interdiffusion was observed. All the constituent elements in the base alloys diffused outward. whereas oxygen from the atmosphere diffused inward, to form triple oxide layers composed of an outermost $\textrm{TiO}_2$ layer. upper ($\textrm{TiO}_2+\textrm{Al}_2\textrm{O}_3$) mixed layer, and lower $\textrm{TiO}_2$-rich layer.

Effects of Mo Addition on the Microstructures and Mechanical Properties of $Al_2O_3$ Ceramics (Mo첨가가 $Al_2O_3$ 세라믹스의 미세구조 및 기계적 성질에 미치는 영향)

  • To investigate the effects of Mo addition on the microstructures and mechanical properties of Al_2O_3$ ceramics, two kinds of Mo particles with average sizes of 2-${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and 6-${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ were used as additives. It was shown that Mo particles inhibited the grain growth of Al_2O_3$, and the smaller Mo particles were more effective. In case of 2-${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ Mo dispersion, the bending strength and the fracture toughness were increased. Dispersion of 6-${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ MO did not increase the strength but improved the fracture toughness a little. The toughening mechanisms of Al_2O_3$-Mo composites are thought to be the crack deflection and microcracking mechanisms.

  • 알루미나 매트릭스 복합재료를 AIZnMg(7075)-합금의 직접적인 용융산화를 통하여 제조하였다. 충전재료는 17$\mu\textrm{m}$ 크기의 모서리가 둥근 연마재용 SiC 입자를 사용하였다. 산화촉진재 SiO2를 사용한 경우와 사용하지 않은 경우를 비교하였다. 매트릭스 형성 매카니즘과 반응거동을 온도와 SiO2사용량을 중심으로 연구하였으며, 얻어진 AI2O3/SiC/금속 복합재료의 미세구조를 관찰하였다.
