Preparation and Sintering Behavior of Alumina Powders Synthesized from Aluminum Alkoxide (알콕사이드로부터 알루미나 미분말의 합성과 그 소결특성)

  • The powder characterization and sintering behavior of alkoxide-derived alumina powders prepared by esterification were investigated. The dried powders were calcined at 700$^{\circ}C$, 900$^{\circ}C$, 1080$^{\circ}C$, 1170$^{\circ}C$ for 1 h. and the resulting crystalline forms were amorphous, {{{{ gamma }} phase, {{{{ theta }}+{{{{ alpha }} phase, and {{{{ alpha }} phase, respectively. The sinterability was best in the case of being calcined at 1170$^{\circ}C$. It was most effective to disperse sintering additive in the initial stage from which acetate was formed. At 1600$^{\circ}C$ for 4 h, 98.5% of relative density was obtained when MgO and Fe2O3 were simultaneously doped, and dense sintered body whose density was near theoretical value was obtained when heating schedule was controlled.

  • Multilayer adsorption isotherms of nitrogen on hexagonal boron nitride, ${\gamma}$-alumina, and silica-gel powders are determined at the liquid nitrogen temperature using a gravimetric adsorption apparatus. The volume (V) of the adsorbed gas are plotted against the statistical thickness(t) of the adsorbed layer, and the t-method area are calculated from the slope of these V-t plots to compare with the BET area. A number of universal adsorption isotherms and the Frenkel-Halsey-Hill equation are used one after another in calculating the statistical thickness. The appropriateness of the FHH equation as an universal adsorption isotherm is discussed finally.

Surface Study on the Supported Molten Salt Catalyst (담지된 금속염 혼합물 촉매의 표면 연구)

  • A basic objective is the preparation and surface studies of supported molten salt catalysts because molten salts can stay as the liquid phase in the range of the ordinary reaction temperature. Many kinds of metal salt mixtures for the formation of molten salt phase are appliable but CuCl and KCl were selected in this study because Cu is considered catalytically reactive in many reactons. The loading of the molten salt was selected as 25 vol% of the total pore volume of ${\gamma}-alumina$ to provide reasonable exposed surface area. The surface structure of catalysts containing molten salts in the ${\gamma}-alumina$ was studied using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). CuCl and KCl were added into the ${\gamma}-alumina$ using concentrated hydrochloric acid solution by the impregnation technique. The surfaces of the prepared catalysts before and after heat treatments were compared and they suggested that the heat treatment of catalysts helped the formation of molten-salt although the surface compositions of CuCl and KCl were not uniform.

Characteristics of Ni/3d Series Transition Metal/γ-Al2O3 Catalysts and their Hydrogen Production Abilities from Butane Steam Reforming

  • The materials composed of the 3d series transition metals are introduced into the hydrocarbon steam-reforming reaction in order to enhance the $H_2$ production and abruptly depress the catalytic deactivation resulting from the strong sintering between the Ni component and the ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ support. The conventional impregnation method is used to synthesize the Ni/3d series metal/${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ materials through the sequentially loading Ni source and the 3d series metal (Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Cu, and Zn) sources onto the ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ support. The Mnloaded material exhibits a significantly higher reforming reactivity than the conventional Ni/${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ and the other Ni/3d series metal/${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ materials. Particularly the addition of Mn selectively improves the $H_2$ product selectivity by eliminating the formation of $CH_4$ and CO. The $H_2$ production is maximized at a value of 95% over Ni(0.3)/Mn(0.3)/${\gamma}-Al_2O_4$(1.0) with a butane conversion of 100% above $750^{\circ}C$ for up to 55 h.

As-Cast and Solidification Structures of Fe-3%C-x%Cr-y%V-w%Mo-z%W Multi- Component White Cast Irons (Fe-3%C-x%Cr-y%V-w%Mo-z%W 다합금계백주철의 주방상태 및 급냉조직)

  • Three different multi-component white cast irons alloyed with Cr, V, Mo and W were prepared in order to study their as-cast and solidification structures. Three combinations of the alloying elements were selected so as to obtain the different types of carbides and matrix structures : 3%C-10%Cr-5%Mo-5%W(alloy No.1), 3%C-10%V-5% Mo-5%W(alloy No. 2) and 3%C-17%Cr-3% V(alloy No.3). The as-cast microstructures were investigated with optical and scanning electron microscopes. There existed two different types of carbides, $M_7C_3$ carbide with rod-like morphology and $M_6C$ carbide with fishbone-like one, and matrix in the alloy No. 1. The alloy No. 2 consisted of MC carbide with chunky and flaky type and needle-like $M_2C$ carbide, and matrix. The chunky type referred to primary MC carbide and the flaky one to eutectic MC carbide. The morphology of the alloy No. 3 represented a typical hypo-eutectic high chromium white cast iron composed of rod-like $M_7C_3$ carbide which is very sensitive to heat flow direction and matrix. To clarify the solidification sequence, each iron(50g) was remelted at 1723K in an alumina crucible using a silicon carbide resistance furnace under argon atmosphere. The molten iron was cooled at the rate of 10K/min and quenched into water at several temperatures during thermal analysis. The solidification structures of the specimen were found to consist of austenite dendrite(${\gamma}$), $ ({\gamma}+ M_7C_3)$ eutectic and $({\gamma}+ M_6C)$ eutectic in the alloy No. 1, proeutectic MC, austenite dendrite(${\gamma}$), (${\gamma}$+MC) eutectic and $({\gamma}+ M_2C)$ eutectic in the alloy No. 2, and proeutectic $M_7C_3$ and $ ({\gamma}+ M_7C_3)$ eutectic in the alloy No 3. respectively.

A Study for the Synthesis and Characterization of $\gamma$-Alumina Powder by Ultrasonic Irradiation (초음파 조사에 의한 감마 알루미나 분말의 합성 및 특성에 관한 연구)

  • An effect of ultrasonic irradiation for the extraction and synthesis of alumina from kaolin was investigated by comparing ultrasonic irradiation method and conventional method with the same factors as reaction time, reaction temperature, and acid concentration. The ultrasonic irradiation method accelerated alumina extraction in comparison to conventional method at $60{\sim}80^{\circ}C$ for $1{\sim}6\;h$ in $1{\sim}5\;M$ ${H_2}{SO_4}$. The characteristics of precipitates and calcined samples, synthesized under the ultrasonic irradiation method and the conventional method, were determined by the means of DTA/TG, XRD, SEM, PSA, BET, etc. Especially, the calcined sample synthesized under the ultrasonic irradiation method had smaller particle size and larger surface area than that synthesized under the conventional method.

  • Copper has attractive properties as a multi-level interconnection material due to lower resistivity and higher electromigration resistance as compared with Alumina and its alloy with Copper(0.5%). Among a variety of agents in Copper CMP slurry, $H_2O_2$ has commonly been used as the oxidizer However. $H_2O_2$ is so unstable that it requires stabilization to use as oxidizer Hence, stabilization of $H_2O_2$ is a vital process to get better yield in practical CMP process. In this article the stability of Hydrogen Peroxide as oxidizer of Copper CMP slurry has been investigated. When alumina abrasive was used, $\gamma$-particle Alumina C had a better stability than $\alpha$-particle abrasive. As adding KOH as pH buffering agent, $H_2O_2$ stability in slurry decreased. Urea hydrogen peroxide was used as oxidizer, an enhanced stability was gotten. When $H_3PO_4$ as $H_2O_2$ stabilizer was added, the decrease of $H_2O_2$ concentration in slurry became slower. Even though adding $H_2O_2$ in slurry after bead milling lead to better stability than in advance of bead milling, it had a lower dispersibility.

  • Slip-casting 법으로 제조한 튜브형 다공성 $Al_2O_3$ 담체에 boehmite 입자를 단층 및 다층 졸-겔 침지코팅법과 본 실험실에서 개발한 새로운 가압 졸-겔 코팅법을 이용하여 알루미나 복합막을 제조하였다. 종래의 Yoldas법을 보완한 새로운 졸 제조방법에 의하여 입자크기가 작고 안정한 boehmite 졸을 제조 하였으며 졸의 제조조건에 따른 입자크기 변화와 열처리에 따른 겔의 상전이 및 비표면적 변화, 그리고 pH와 aging에 따른 안정성등을 규명하였다. 졸의 농도와 코팅시간 및 코팅 방법에 따른 코팅특성 등을 비교, 분석하여 복합막 제조에 최적인 코팅용 졸을 이용함으로써 담체 튜브내에 균열이 없고 재현성 있는 복합분리막을 제조할 수 있었다.

  • 산업의 발달로 인하여 자원재활용의 문제와 환경 오염 방지와 더불어 에너지 절약에 대한 중요성이 확대되면서 분리 고정을 이용한 환경 오염 방지 및 에너지 절약에 대한 관심이 확대되었다. 세라믹 필터는 열악한 환경에서의 적용 그리고 에너지 소모가 적은 장점을 가지고 있다. 여러종류의 재료들 중에서 기공의 제어가 용이한 알루미나 여과막은 보에하미트(${\gamma}$-AlOOH) 분말과 금속 알콕사이드(ATSB, aluminum tri-sec butoxide)를 사용하여 간단하게 제조할 수 있다. 알루미나는 열처리 론도에 따라 $\alpha$-A1$_2$O$_3$ 결정상 뿐만 아니라 몇 가지 준안정한 결정구조를 가진다. 보에마이트(${\gamma}$-AlOOH)는 45$0^{\circ}C$ 근처에서 미세한 기공을 가진 ${\gamma}$-A1$_2$O$_3$로 상전이 되는 것으로 알려져 있고, 120$0^{\circ}C$보다 낮은 온도에서 열처리하게 되면 미세구조의 변화는 일어나지 않고 약간의 입자 성장만을 수반하는 $\delta$-A1$_2$O$_3$ 또는 $\theta$-A1$_2$O$_3$으로 상전이가 일어난다. $\alpha$-A1$_2$O$_3$로의 상전이는 기공 크기의 변화와 vermicular구조를 가지는 비정상적인 입자성장을 수반하게 된다. 여과막은 기공크기와 분포를 제어하는 것이 매우 중요하므로, 상전이와 미세구조의 변화를 이해하는 것은 중요하다.
