Aluminium Hydroxides Gel을 이용한 α-Al2O3 판상체의 제조 (Preparation of α-Al2O3 Platelets from Aluminum Hydroxides Gel)

  • 평균입자크기가 20 ${\mu}$이고, 두께가 0.2∼0.3 ${\mu}m$${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ 판상체를 제조하기 위하여 전구물질로써 황산알루미늄과 황산나트륨을 사용하여 수산화알루미늄을 제조하였다. 이때 첨가되는 인산나트륨의 양이 ${\alpha}Al_2O_3$ 판상체의 입자크기, 형상, 그리고 두께에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지에 대하여 관찰하였다. 인산나트륨을 첨가하지 않았을 경우, 대부분의 ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ 판 상체가 육각판상모양을 띠고 있었으나 그 두께가 1.0 ${\mu}m$ 이상으로 진주안료 기질로는 적합하지 않았다. 반면, 인산나트륨이 첨가되었을 경우, ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ 판상체의 두께를 감소시켜 각형비를 증가시키는 현상을 초래하였다.

  • Flux법과 마이크로파 가열법으로 $Al_2(SO_4)_3+2Na_2SO_4$${\gamma}-Al_2O_3+2Na_2SO_4$ 분말혼합물로부터 ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ 판상체(platelets)를 합성하였다. ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ 판상체 형성에 미치는 마이크로파의 영향을 조사하기 위하여 DTA-TG, XRD 및 SEM을 이용하였다. $Al_2(SO_4)_3+2Na_2SO_4$ 혼합물의 경우, 마이크로파로 가열된 시료는 재래식으로 가열된 시료에 비하여 입자의 크기가 작고 응집체로 구성된 ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ 판상체로 나타났다. ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3+2Na_2SO_4$ 혼합물의 경우, 마이크로파 가열에 의한 ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ 판상체 형성온도는 재래식 가열에 의한 형성온도 보다 낮았다. 또한 마이크로파로 가열된 시료의 형상은 재래식으로 가열된 시료의 형상과 유사하였다. 그러나 마이크로파로 가열된 시료는 재래식으로 가열된 시료에 비하여 입자의 크기가 작았다.

  • Al2O3/SiC hybrid-composite has been fabricated by the conventional powder process. The addition of $\alpha$-Al2O3 as seed particles in the transformation of ${\gamma}$-Al2O3 to $\alpha$-Al2O3 provided a homogeneity of the microstructure. The grain growth of Al2O3 are significantly surpressed by the addition of nano-size SiC particles. Dislocation were produced due to the difference of thermal expansion coefficient between Al2O3 and SiC and piled up on SiC particles in Al2O3 matrix, resulting in transgranular fracture. The high fracture strength of the composite was contributed to the grain refinement and the transgranular fracture mode. The addition of SiC platelets to Al2O3/SiC nano-composite decreased the fracture strength, but increased the fracture toughness. Coated SiC platelets with nitrides such as BN and Si3N4 enhanced fracture toughness much more than non-coated SiC platelets by enhancing crack deflection.

  • [ ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ ] precursor was synthesised by sol-gel method using aluminum sulfate, sodium sulfate and sodium carbonate as law materials. The flaky ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ crystals were prepared by heating using precursor about $1,050^{\circ}C$. In this study, the effect of some transition-metal sulfate ($FeSO_4,\;SnSO_4,\;ZnSO_4$) addition have been investigated. When iron sulfate was added, it could see that act on impurities in crystal growth process. In case of tin sulfate, distribution of Platelets was very broad. When flaky ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ crystals were prepared zinc sulfate addition, thickness, size, and distribution of platelets was suited to industrial application. The average diameter of flaky ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ crystals was about 20 $\mu$m, and its thickness was about 0.3 $\mu$m. Increasing addition of zinc sulfate, thickness of ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ platelet was decreased.

  • To precipitate the complex gels of the pH 6, 7, 8, 9 included in a flux and an aluminum hydroxides gel, an aqueous solution of a mixture of $Na_2CO_3\;and\;Na_2PO_4{\cdot}12H_2O$ was added with stirring in an aqueous solution of a mixture of $Al_2(SO_4){_3}{\cdot}18H_2O,\;Na_2SO_4\;and\;K_2SO_4$, and then the complex gels were aged in 20 h at $90^{\circ}C$. As the hydrolysis pH changed, it had an effect on the physical properties such as the crystal structure, crystal morphology and a phase transition temperature of the AlO(OH) gel, and also on the crystal structure, crystal morphology, particle size and particle size distribution of the ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ platelets prepared by molten-salt precipitation. Also, in this study, the complex gels were crystallized at $1,200^{\circ}C$ and thereafter dried at $110^{\circ}C$, and then it was investigated to effect of the hydrolysis pH on the crystal structure, morphology and particle size distribution of the ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ platelets crystals using XRD, DTA, SEM and particle size analyzer.

정방정 $ZrO_2$의 첨가가 $\alpha$-Alumina/La-\beta-Aluminate $ 복합체의 기계적 성질에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Tetragonal $ZrO_2$ Addition on the Mechanical Properties of $\alpha$-Alumina/La-\beta-Aluminate $Composite)

  • In-situ 반응에 의하여 형성된 La-$\beta$-aluminate (LaAl11O18)로 강화된 알루미나 복합체에 정방정 ZrO2를 첨가하여 알루미나 복합체를 제조하였다. 사용된 분말 혼합체의 조성은 (100-x)[88 Al2O3+(La2O3+11 Al2O3)]+x vol% ZrO2였으며, x는 0부터 40까지 변화시켰다. 열간가압형성에 의하여 얻어진 치밀한 소결체는 1200MPa의 곡강도값을 나타내었다. 이러한 높은 곡강도값은 첨가한 ZrO2 입자와 기존의 La-$\beta$-aluminate platelets의 기지 입자에 대한 입성장 억제 효과와 ZrO2의 응력유기 상변태 효과로부터 기인하였다. 상기 복합체의 파괴 인성도 역시 8.58.5 MPa.m1/2까지 증가하였는데, 이러한 파괴인성의 증가는 ZrO2의 상변태 강화와 미세균열 강화, 그리고 La-$\beta$-aluminate와 ZrO2 입자의 균열 deflection과 bridging의 효과로 설명되어질 수 있다.

Microstructural Investigations of $Al_2O_3$ Scale Formed on FeCrAl Steel during High Temperature Oxidation in $SO_2$

  • The results of microstructure observations of the $Al_2O_3$ scale formed on a Fe-Cr-Al steel during high temperature oxidation in the $SO_2$ atmosphere are presented. Morphology of the scale has been studied by SEM and TEM techniques. Phase and chemical compositions have been studied by EDX and XRD techniques. The alumina oxide is a primary component of the scale. TEM observations showed that the scale was multilayer. The entire surface of the scale is covered with "whiskers", which look like very thin platelets and have random orientation. The cross section of a sample shows, that the "whiskers" are approximately $2{\mu}m$ high, however the compact scale layer on which they reside is $0.2{\mu}m$ thick. The scale layer was composed mainly of small equiaxial grains and a residual amount of small columnar grains. EDX analysis of the scale surface showed that the any sulfides were found in the formed outer and thin inner scale layer. A phase analysis of the scale formed revealed that it is composed mainly of the $\theta-Al_2O_3$ phase and a residual amount of $\alpha-Al_2O_3$.
