Abstract
Recently, the number of blood transfusion patients has been on the rise, and various side effects have been reported. These side effects are mainly caused by leukocytes, and they can be prevented if the amount of leukocytes in blood products is reduced by 80-90% or more. In this study, melt-blown (M/B) manufacturing process conditions were adjusted internally using the pore size, and a composite blood filter was manufactured using spun-bond (S/B) externally. In pig blood, performance evaluations were conducted on various leukocyte reduction filters developed to prevent the side effects of transfusion. The leukocyte removal filters were evaluated by analyzing the scanning electron microscopic (SEM) images, mean pore diameter (MPD), contact angle measurement, and leukocyte rejection. Consequently, the filters that were used in this experiment had contact angles of about $15-20^{\circ}$ and leukocyte rejection rates of 32-99%. The stable performance of the filter was confirmed in pig blood. Therefore, the M/B filter can potentially be applied as a leukocyte removal filter.
