Aim & Scope
*Aims of NPSM The origin of New Physics: Sae Mulli (NPSM, ISO abbreviation: New Phys.: Sae Mulli.): Sae Mulli (새물리 in Korean characters means ‘new physics’) is the oldest Korean pure scientific journal. It was first published in 1961 just after the Korean War by the Korean Physical Society (KPS). The primary mission of Sae Mulli was to start building up Korean physics research community from almost nothing and in fact Sae Mulli had made tremendous contributions to the Korean science community. Through a peer-review system, Sae Mulli had continued elevating the level of scientific researches, consequently becoming a cornerstone of the economic miracle of Korea. Several reasons of the success of Sae Mulli: Firstly, Sae Mulli was successful in attracting the broad readership. Because the papers were written in Korean, it was easy to read and spread them. Physicists, physics-related scientists/engineers, physics teachers, and even students have been the general readers of Sae Mulli and this tradition is still maintained up to now. Such broad readership is the major difference between Sae Mulli and JKPS, an English-only journal published by KPS. Secondly, Sae Mulli published papers in Korean but with English-written abstracts in order to inform Korean physics research results to other countries. As a result, Sae Mulli could be listed in Physics Abstracts (now INSPEC) from the beginning of the publication. In the year 2010, Sae Mulli has changed the name into New Physics: Sae Mulli for an international readership, starting to publish English-written papers as well as previous Korean-written ones. And since 2015, New Physics: Sae Mulli has been indexed in SCOPUS, the world’s largest citation index database. NPSM will keep its previous reputation among Korean readers who are more comfortable with Korean by providing qualified papers through the peer-review. NPSM will help to encourage undergraduate and graduate students by giving more publishing opportunities in both Korean and English. NPSM will also establish a new reputation among foreigners in scientifically underdeveloped countries such as other Asian countries by helping them publish papers without page charges and announcing their scientific achievements worldwide. NPSM has many advantages over other physics journals: 1. User-friendly homepage for both Koreans and foreigners, 2. Broad Korean and international readership by online open access policy, 3. Peer review system by well-qualified Korean and foreign reviewers, 4. Rapid publication duration through the online submission system, 5. Bilingual submission in Korean and English, and 6. Free of page charges for foreign authors. *Scope of NPSM New Physics: Sae Mulli monthly publishes peer-reviewed research papers and review papers which make significant, original and correct contributions to one of four categories of physics: 1) review of current physics topics, 2) applied physics(condensed matter, optics, etc.), 3) particle and nuclear physics, 4) other areas of physics (physics education, atomic and molecular physics, interdisciplinary, etc.). Both experimental and theoretical papers are accepted. Papers should be written in Korean or English. The review papers deliver the current physics topics of interests and the current instrumentation (both experimental and theoretical) knowledge at the university level so that even advanced high school students or undergraduate students can access easily. Papers based on successful and original student projects done at Korean local universities are specially welcome.
