Korean High Speed Train (KHST) designed to operate at 350km/h has been tested on high speed line in JungBu site since it was developed in 2002. The dynamic performances of railway vehicle are generally stability, safety and ride comfort. The stability performance of KHST was proved that it is stable at 400Km/h through Roller Rig test. The safety and ride comfort need to be predicted the capability of it at 350km/h by the on-line test because KHST is testing at 300km/h up to now. Therefor, in this paper, the safety and ride comfort at 350km/h are predicted the performance using the acceleration results at 300kw/h and these results show that the KHST's dynamic performances are very good. Also, it illustrate the two cases occurred the abnormal vibration of KHST during some on-line tests. The first case is that the variation of vertical acceleration of wheel is analyzed when an abrasion occur on wheel. The second case is that the lateral acceleration of wheel, bogie and body are analyzed when the KHST is unstable at high speed. The occurrences of these special phenomena were due to the some faults of the suspension and braking systems and the faults were improved. In present, it is testing with safety.

In this paper, we introduce the characteristics of ride comfort for KTX(Korea Train express) and HSR 350(Korea High Speed Train project). The concept of term "ride comfort" is equivocal. Generally it is defined as the vehicle vibration. There are many studies on evaluation method of ride comfort for railway. In the case of KTX, the ride comfort has been evaluated according to ISO 2631 standard. But the ride comfort for HSR 350 has been assessed by UIC 513R. We have reviewed the ride comfort for KTX and HSR 350 by same method, such as ISO 2631 and UIC 513R, and compared the result of KTX with that of HSR 350.

KHST(Korean High-Speed Train, 350km/h), composed of 7 cars that are 2 power cars, 2 motorized car and 3 trailer cars, has been developed and is under on-line test. To verify hte design requirements about the functions and traction performances of this train, KRRI(Korea Railroad Research Institute) decided to evaluate traction performances of the train during on-line test. For this purpose, such as torque, velocity, voltage and current, must be measured. BRRI has developed the measurement system that can be measured vast and various signals effectively. In this paper, we introduce traction performances of KHST. The traction measurement items are focused on the verification of motor block performances.

This paper shows the systematic design technology for development of new high speed rolling stock and the important item by the instance of G7 R＆D project titled "Development of High Speed Railway Technology". This paper also describes core technology and concrete examples of its application during the development of high speed rolling stock.

In this paper, as the first step to assess and enhance the reliability of Korea High Speed Train, electric traction system is selected and reliability analysis is carried out. The electric traction system is classified into subsystems and functional block diagrams and reliability block diagrams are drawn. Expressions to calculate the reliability are deducted and Mean Kilometer Between Service Failure is calculated using the trial test results on the track. Calculated results show reliability growth of the electric traction system.

Korean High Speed Train (KHST) has been tested on high speed line in JungBu site since it was developed in 2002. The data acquisition system was used to test successfully the on-line test for proving the dynamic performance of KHST. The recognition of system vibration mode for railway vehicle is essential to understand the characteristics of design for dynamic system and diagnose the dynamic problems of vehicle system during test and operation. But, up to now, there are the efforts to know the system vibration mode within limit of theoretical field only, not experimental approach with systematic method. The theoretical results are too reliable to apply to real design problem, because it is theoretically based on the homogeneous linear system although the real system have the nonlinear characteristics and vary the environmental conditions. Therefor, in this paper, it is proposed the efficient method of vibration analysis for rail vehicle system and this method apply to KHST to recognize the vibration mode characteristics of it. The results show that this method is able to make the system vibration modes for KHST clear.

Computerized simulation is becoming an indispensable procedure in the stage of planning, design, and operation of railway systems. This paper presents result of simulation technique for describing electrical performance of the power supply system which comprises the substation, catenary, feeder, and rails where multiple trains are running.

Recently, the "ride comfort" problem becomes increasingly important because of today′s needs for train speedup. The concept of term "ride comfort" is equivocal. Generally it is defined as the vehicle vibration. There are many studies on evaluation method of ride comfort for railway. But each of them recommends the different assessment method and the different guidance. So users must review whether they can apply it to their system or not. In general, the evaluation methods defined in the standards - ISO 2631, UIC 513 R, and Ride Index suggested by Sporting - have been used in the railroad. The ride comfort measuring system according to the previous mentioned evaluation methods "ride comfort" has developed, verified and utilized in the railways.

In this paper, we is studied for traction performances of KTX. Main transformer of this train are compose of 3 motor blocks. In order to this test is developed measurement system. Using this system, we obtained important result for running speed, acceleration, axle speed, transformer oil temperature.

In order to develop a high speed train, various conditions have been considered. Fatigue strength assessment by the fluctuation of pressure is an important one. In this study, a numerical simulation has been performed to estimate the fluctuation and frequency of pressure when KHST(Korean High Speed Train)passes through tunnels in the Kyung-Bu high-speed railway. The simulation was based on KHST running the Kyung-Bu high-speed line with the speed of 350km/h and the interval of 10 minute headway. And the tunnel entrance speed was estimated by TPS program. Therefore, the fluctuation and frequency of pressure is expressed in Weibull distribution function in the above running situation. The result in this study would be good guidance to calculate the fatigue life and the index of reliability of body structure. We are going to conduct more study to measure the real value of the pressure of the carbody passing through tunnels, to assess the fatigue reliability and to develop method ＆ procedure for the fatigue reliability design.

Aluminum carbody for rolling stocks is light and perfectly recycled, but includes severe defects which are very dangerous to fatigue strength. Static load test has been performed up to date to assess structural safety of the carbody. However, static load test is not sufficient to evaluate fatigue strength of the carbody, because fatigue failure is caused by dynamic load. In this study, the established load test methods for carbody are described and the characteristics of the methods are discussed. Also, a testing method to simulate dynamic loading condition is proposed for evaluation of fatigue strength of the carbody The results by the proposed testing method are compared with the results by the static load test and new findings are discussed.

Railway is huge traffic system which is operated organically combining all the elements; vehicle, track, electric power, signal/communication, operation, etc. Safety level has been improved steadily by learning lessons from past accident. But with rapid progress in high-speed, massive, high-frequency transit fresh idea of accident prevention is now in order. In quest of effective and efficient countermeasure, we aim to establish an adequate safety evaluation/management method. Our proposals are basic concept relating to safety analysis of fatal accidents, AHP of Saaty, Fuzzy AHP.

Computer aided simulation is becoming an essential part in planning, design, and operation of railway systems. To determine the adequate performance and specification of railway system, it is necessary to calculate rotting stock's performance such as distance, speed, power etc when train's running. This paper presents result of train performance simulation using the program that developed in advance for Korea high speed train. To verify result of simulation, we have compared that with experiment data.

The railway vehicle is composed of many suspension components, such as 1st springs, 2nd dampers, that have an influence on the dynamic characteristics of high speed train. Also, the wheel/rail shapes and its contact mechanism affect the dynamic behavior of high speed train. but these geometric contact characteristics are nonlinear functions of the wheelset lateral displacement and it do not exact dynamic analysis for high speed train. there is a need to develop a new wheel/rail contact module for dynamic behavior and wheelset model is divided motor box, wheel box and wheel body. This wheel is moved by motor box and constrained by joint. It is almost same a train and its result is more exactly.

Korean High Speed Train (KHST) has been tested on high speed line in JungBu site since it was developed in 2002. The KHST figured 7 cars was modeled for dynamic simulation with Vampire program. and the data acquisition system was used to test successfully the on-line test for proving the dynamic performance of KHST. The comparison between test and simulation results for dynamic behavior of KHST was tried in this paper and it was very difficult because the environmental conditions and running conditions have an effect on the test results and these conditions are unable to be modeled for dynamic analysis. Also the parameters for data acquisition system for test are usually not same to simulation conditions. Therefor, in this paper the acceleration data after filtering with low pass filter below 1Hz were used to compare between test and simulation results because the low frequency range is useful to evaluate the dynamic performance for railway vehicle system, so as steady state curving acceleration. The results show that both are similar in low frequency range.

In this paper, we introduce the software and hardware of the measuring system for performances of traction and braking in KTX(Korea Train eXpress). The measuring system focuses on the verification of the performance and acquisition of test data. The software controls the hardware of the measuring system, performs the analysis and calculation of measurement data and acts as interface between users and the hardware. For this purpose, three programs, such as a measuring program, a back-up program and a post-processing program, have developed.
