Abstract

In a capacitive wireless power transfer (CPT) system, a high-frequency (HF) inverter and a matching network are separately considered for system design, and front-end or back-end DC-DC converters are usually added for voltage regulation. Buck-boost inverters and tapped inductors are combined to create a family of inverters, which merges the functions of the HF inverter and the input impedance matching network. Through the duality of inverters and rectifiers, a family of rectifiers is also proposed, providing the output impedance matching function. The front-end or back-end DC-DC converter stage is eliminated due to the wide voltage gain voltage feature of the proposed topology. In this study, the operation principle and gain properties of the proposed system are investigated for both constant current and constant voltage output modes. A prototype of a 100 W CPT system was designed and implemented to verify the feasibility of the proposed topology. Experimental results agree well with the theoretical analysis. The proposed CPT system can reduce the coupler voltage stress by 1.7 times compared with the conventional double-sided LC structure at the same transferred power and can also provide zero voltage switching operation.
