The Mediating Effect of Satisfaction with major and Job Esteem on the Relationship between Nursing students' Perceptions of Nurses' Image and Nursing Professionalism

Abstract

This study aimed to explore the effects of nurse's image, major satisfaction, and job esteem on the nursing professional values of nursing students. This study surveyed 164 third and fourth-year nursing students from two universities. The SPSS/23.0 program was used to analyze the data with descriptive statistics; an independent t-test, analysis of variance ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and mediating effect analysis were performed using Process Macro 4.0. The result showed positive correlations between nursing professionalism and nurse's image (r=.655, p<.001), satisfaction with major (r=.422, p<.001), and job esteem (r=.720, p<.001). Satisfaction in major and job esteem were found to mediate the relationship between the nurse's image and nursing professionalism. Based on the results of this study, to establish a proper sense of nursing professionalism among nursing students, it is necessary to enhance positive perceptions of nurses, improve satisfaction with the major, and increase job esteem. This can be achieved through curriculum development, improvements in hospital environments, activities aimed at changing perceptions of nurses, and ongoing reforms in relevant systems.

본 연구는 간호대학생의 간호사에 대한 이미지와 간호전문직관과의 관계에서 전공만족도, 직업존중의 매개효과를 확인하여 바람직한 간호전문직관을 확립할 수 있는 방안을 마련하기 위한 기초자료를 제시하고자 시도되었다. 연구대상은 J도와 G시의 2개 대학 3, 4학년 간호대학생 164명으로 수집된 자료는 SPSS 23.0을 이용하여 기술통계, Independent t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient을 하였고, Process macro 4.0 프로그램을 통해 매개효과를 검증하였다. 간호대학생의 간호전문직관은 간호사에 대한 이미지(r=.655, p=<.001), 전공만족도(r=.422, p=<.001), 직업만족도(r=.720, p=<.001)와 정적 상관관계로 나타났다. 간호사에 대한 이미지와 간호전문직관과의 관계에서 전공만족도, 직업존중은 매개효과를 나타내었다. 본 연구 결과를 바탕으로 간호대학생의 올바른 간호전문직관의 확립을 위해 간호사에 대한 긍정적인 이미지와 전공만족도, 직업존중을 높일 수 있도록 교육과정 운영, 병원 환경의 개선, 간호사 인식 개선을 위한 활동, 지속적인 제도의 개선 등이 필요하다.
