Influence of Academic Stress and Self-Esteem on Problem-Solving Ability of Adult Learners Nursing Students

성인학습자 간호대학생의 학업스트레스와 자아존중감이 문제해결능력에 미치는 영향

Abstract

This study attempted to investigate the effects of academic stress and self-esteem on problem-solving ability among nursing college students of adult learners who are 25 years of age or older. A structural surveys was conducted on 180 nursing college students of adult learners who understood the purpose of the research and consented to participate. Data analysis was performed using SPSS 18.0 software. The results revealed that the problem-solving ability of the subjects showed a negative correlation with academic stress (r=-.319, p<.001) and a positive correlation with self-esteem (r=.533, p<.001). The primary factors influencing problem-solving ability were found to be self-esteem (𝛽=.48, p<.001). Therefore, to enhance problem-solving abilities among adult nursing students, it is necessary to develop various counseling and educational programs aimed at increasing self-esteem. Considering the increasing proportion of adult learners in universities, policies and systems for customized curricular education and extra-curricular curriculum for not only school-age learners but also adult learners are required.

본 연구는 만 25세 이상인 성인학습자 간호대학생의 학업스트레스와 자아존중감이 문제해결능력에 미치는 영향을 알아보고자 시도되었다. 본 연구는 연구의 목적을 이해하고 참여에 동의한 성인학습자 간호대학생 180명을 대상으로 구조화된 설문지를 이용하여 자료를 수집하였다. SPSS 18.0 프로그램을 이용하여 자료를 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 대상자의 문제해결능력은 학업스트레스(r=-.319, p<.001)와 부적상관관계, 자아존중감(r=.533, p<.001)과 정적상관관계를 나타냈다. 문제해결능력에 영향을 미치는 주요 요인은 자아존중감(𝛽=.48, p<.001)으로 나타났다. 따라서 성인학습자 간호대학생의 문제해결능력을 향상시키기 위하여 자아존중감을 증진시키기 위한 다양한 상담 및 교육 프로그램 개발이 필요하며, 대학에서 성인학습자 비중이 높아짐을 고려하여 성인학습자 간호대학생을 위한 맞춤형 교과교육 및 비교과 교육과정 방향의 정책과 제도가 필요하다.
