The Effect of the Elementary School 'Smart Mathematics Exploration Team' Support System on Mathematical Academic Achievement and Mathematical Attitude

Abstract

As COVID-19 began to create discussions on various problems and learning deficits in the educational field, various digital teaching and learning methods were suggested as a solution. At this time, the development and interest in artificial intelligence-based class support systems are increasing. The purpose of this study is to verify the effect of the artificial intelligence-based math class support system on the mathematical academic achievement and mathematical attitude of elementary school students in the actual educational field. For this purpose, we designed and developed a learning program using the 'Smart Mathematics Exploration Team', a math class support system, by selecting and combining the steps according to the purpose of math learning and the purpose of using the artificial intelligence education system. As a result of conducting and analyzing learning using the "Smart Math Exploration Team" for 24 third-grade elementary school students over 14 weeks, there was a significant improvement in mathematical academic achievement and all eight sub-factors of mathematical attitudes, such as confidence, interest, purpose, achievement motivation, attention, self-learning, and learning technology application.

COVID-19로 교육 현장에서 발생하는 여러 문제와 학습 결손에 대한 논의가 생겨나기 시작하면서 이를 해결할 방법으로 여러 디지털 교수·학습 방법이 주목받기 시작했다. 이러한 시기에 인공지능 시대를 맞아 인공지능 활용 수업 지원시스템에 대한 개발과 관심이 높아지고 있다. 본 연구는 인공지능 활용 수학 수업지원시스템이 실제 교육현장에서 초등학생의 수학 학업성취도와 수학적 태도에 미치는 영향을 검증하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 수학학습 목적에 따른 단계와 인공지능 교육시스템 활용 목적에 따른 단계를 선택·결합하여 수학 수업지원시스템인 '똑똑수학탐험대' 활용 학습 프로그램을 설계 및 개발하였으며 전문가 타당도 검사를 실시한 후 수업에 적용하였다. 14주에 걸쳐 초등학교 3학년 학생 24명을 대상으로 '똑똑수학탐험대' 활용 학습을 진행하고 사전-사후 검사를 통하여 분석한 결과, 수학 학업성취도 결과와 우월감, 자신감, 흥미, 목적 의식, 성취 동기, 주의 집중, 자율학습, 학습기술적용 등 수학적 태도의 8가지 모든 하위 요소에서 유의미한 향상을 보였다.
