Abstract

This study investigated the characteristics of mixture fabrics made of polypropylene (PP) spun yarn (P1, P2); polyethylene terephthalate (PET) filament yarn (P1, P2); and the composite yarn of rayon (P4), cotton (P3), and polyester fiber (TC). The results of the study are as follows. For the moisture control properties, P1 (PET/PP) and P3 (cotton/PP) were superior to other fabrics with a "very good" accumulative one-way transport index (AOTI) grade. The overall moisture management capacity (OMMC) of P1, P3, and TC (PET/cotton) was also "very good" and showed excellent moisture control performance. As a result of investigating the antifouling properties of five test fabrics, P1 and P2 (PET/PP40) showed low soil release characteristics, while the oil repellency properties exhibited higher rates. The mixture fabrics of PP yarn (P1-P4) showed excellent pilling resistance compared with TC. P1 and P2, consisting of PP spun yarn and PET filament yarn, showed significantly lower triboelectric charge than the other materials. Investigating the thermal properties result, P1 and P2 showed higher thermal insulation than TC. In the evaluation of antimicrobial activity, PP spun yarn mixture fabrics P1 and P2 showed excellent antibacterial properties, with 99.9% bacteriostatic reduction rate against Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella pneumoniae.
