A Study of Yoon Dong-ju's recognition to reality and his poetic respons

윤동주의 현실인식과 시적 응전 연구

Our literary history positioned Yoon Dong-ju as "the poet whobecame a torch of spirit who kept Korean poetry in the age ofblackness under Japanese colonial rule." The readers also remember himas 'the poet who reflected on himself and dreamed of practicing' or 'thepoet of self-reflection'. This means that the main characteristic of YoonDong-ju 's poetic background is in 'self - reflection' and furthermore aworld oriented through this.In order to observe and understand these poems of Yoon Dong-ju, itis important to consider how the poet perceived and reacted poetically tothe times or the historical situation or reality, at that time. The moredeeply the shade of the age is, the more the poet's experience andperception are affected by the historical change, and the meaningnetwork generated by the poet's response to it makes it possible toobjectively and valuably identify the poetic world of a poet.Therefore, this article considers the 19 pieces contained in theautograph collection "Heaven, Wind, Stars, and Poetry" by YoonDong-ju himself as his selection and includes works that are extendedaesthetically or semantically before and after these works to study thepoet's self-reflection trajectory and the direction it pursues. As a result,Yoon Dong-ju's perception of the painful and horrible reality and thepoetic reaction generated here are basically based on the metaphysical attitude represented by the Christian ethical consciousness and theabsolute conscience but it was sure to confirm that his stepping up tothe manifestation of aggressive will is to overcome the faced realitywhile adding the depth and to wait for 'morning comes like times'.

윤동주에 대해 우리 문학사는 “일제 암흑기의 한국시를 지킨 정신의 횃불이 된 시인”이라고 그 위치를 매김하고 있다. 독자들 또한 그를 ‘자기를 성찰하고 실천을 꿈꾸었던 시인’, 또는 ‘자기성찰의 시인’이라고 기억하고 있다. 이는 윤동주 시세계의 주요한 특징이 ‘자기성찰’에 있으며 나아가 이를 통해 지향하는 세계가 있음을 의미한다. 이러한 윤동주의 시세계를 면밀하게 관찰하고 이해하기 위해서는 당시의 시대적 혹은 역사적 상황이나 현실을 시인이 어떻게 인식하고 시적으로 응전하였는가를 고찰하는 것이 중요하다. 시대의 그늘이 깊을수록 시인의 경험과 인식은 역사적 변화의 영향을 받기 마련이고 그것에 대한 시인의 응전이 빚어내는 의미망은 한 시인의 시세계를 객관적이고 가치 있게 규명할 수 있게 해주기 때문이다. 따라서 이 글은 윤동주 스스로가 갈무리한 자필 시선집 『하늘과 바람과 별과 詩』에 담긴 열아홉 편을 그의 정선(精選)으로 보고 여기에 이들 작품 앞뒤로 미학적 혹은 의미론적으로 연장선상에 있는 작품들을 포함시켜 시인의 자기성찰 궤적과 그것이 지향하는 바를 살폈다. 그 결과 고통스럽고 참혹한 현실에 대한 윤동주의 인식과 여기서 빚어지는 시적 응전이 기본적으로는 기독교적 윤리의식과 절대적인 양심으로 표현되는 형이상학적 태도를 중심으로 이루어지지만 그 깊이를 더하면서 직면한 현실을 극복하고 ‘시대처럼 올 아침’을 기다리는 적극적인 의지의 발현으로 나아가는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.
