Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the impact of the urban heat island intensity(UHII) based on 65 observations from May to August in 2016 for Ulsan. The climatic variations in summer were controlled by classifying the data into clear sky, partially cloudy and cloudy period. The geographical variations were controlled by classifying the data into core, urban and semi urban areas. The results of this study were as follows; Maximum daytime UHII of $8.2^{\circ}C$ was found in semi-urban area during clear sky period while maximum nocturnal UHII of $9.1^{\circ}C$ was found in urban area during clear sky period when the wind velocity is below 5m/s. The maximum temperature of the daytime for the city center and rural area in August had a slightly difference but the minimum temperature of nocturnal showed a significant difference. The tropical nights in the city center of Ulsan occurred at twice more in the Ulsan weather station. It also examined the implications of the effect of the urban heat island available to designers and planners for buildings and urban environment.
