김승옥 소설에 드러난 동일화에 맞선 해체적 저항 - 「역사」․「누이를 이해하기 위하여」․「확인해본 열다섯 개의 고정관념」을 중심으로 -

Resistance of dismantlement against uniformity in Kim Seung Ok’s novel - Focus on 「A strong man」․「To understand my sister」․「Fifteen fixed ideas I checked」-

본고는 1963년 발표된 김승옥의 세 작품「역사(力士)」,「누이를 이해하기 위하여」,「확인해본 열다섯 개의 고정관념」속의 저항적 인물을 통해 김승옥의 문학적 대항지점을 찾아보려는 연구이다. 위 작품에는 당대의 당위가 공간의 배치와 시간을 파편화하는 방법으로 개인들을 훈육하고, 개조하는 과정이 형상화되고 있다. 의식의 개혁과 생활의 개선은 합리적인 삶의 방식이자 절제된 윤리라는 명분으로 강조되며, 자발적인 동참을 요구하고 있다. 그러나 이 과정에서 중심적인 힘들은 개별자들의 차이를 무시하고, 동일성의 폭력을 휘두르게 되면서 개인들은 당위의 양가적 지평에서 흔들리게 된다. 소설 속 몇몇 인물은 이런 뒤얽힌 감정에서 자유로울 수는 없지만 가치 판단의 기준을 자기 안에서 찾으며, 규율화에 동화되지 않으려는 저항적 면모를 보여주고 있다. 자신이 가지고 있는 힘을 교환가치로 전락시키지 않으려는「역사」의 ‘서씨’와 시간 뿐 아니라 감정마저 통제하고, 훈육시키려는 세상에 투사가 되어 맞서보려는 ‘하숙생’이 이와 같은 인물이다. 또「누이를 이해하기 위하여」의 ‘누이’처럼 도시가 요구하는 감정의 기교를 거부하고 침묵을 선택하는 인물과 조리에 맞지 않는 감정을 그대로 보여주며 동일화에 대한 거부를 드러낸 ‘소설가’도 있다. 특히「확인해본 열다섯 개의 고정관념」의 서술자는 자신의 경험들과 생각, 감각마저 고정관념이라고 폐기처분한다. 자기 안에서 자기라는 중심을 해체하는 것이다. 이를 더 확장해서 생각하면 자신 뿐 아니라 외부에서 분명하고 확실하다고 정해진 것들 역시 의심되고, 해체될 수 있음을 드러내는 작용을 하게 된다. 즉 중심부를 부정하고 해체해보려는 인물들을 통해 고정되고 고착된 상태에서 벗어나려고 한다. 「확인해본 열다섯 개의 고정관념」의 서술자가 말한 것처럼 “가가호호 문을 두드리고 다닐 수 있는 정열을 가진 거지”로 늘 길을 떠나며, 사이에 존재해야 한다는 것이다. 많은 것들을 소외하고 배제하는 동일성과 중심부의 세계와 이별하고 늘 길을 떠나야 한다는 것. 이것이 김승옥 소설이 보여주는 하나의 저항이라 할 수 있다.

The purpose of this study is to find Kim Seong Ok’s literary base ofresistance through resisting characters in his 3 novels published in1963, 「A strong man」, 「To understand sister」, 「Fifteen fixed ideasI checked」.In this novels, the process how the shoulds of the time disciplinedand rebuilt individuals by fragmenting the allocation of space and timewas embodied. Consciousness reform and improvement of live wereemphasized as rational way of life and moderated ethics, requiringvoluntary participation. But in this process, the centric forces ignoredthe difference of each individuals and did violence of identification, soshoulds of each individuals became unstable on ambivalence horizon.Some characters in the novels were confined to the tangled feelingsbut tried to find standards of valuation in their inside and resisted tothe assimilation of disciplinization. Mr. Seo’ in 「A strong man」 whotried not to degrade his power into exchangeable value, ‘the studentboarder’ who decided to fight against the world which attempteddiscipline by controlling time and feelings are those characters. Thesister in To understand sister refused finesse of feelings demanded bycity and chose silence while the novelist rejected identification byshowing preposterous feelings.Even the narrator of Fifteen fixed ideas I checked considered hisown experience, thinking and senses as fixed ideas and disposed it. Hedismantled the center of ‘I’ existed inside himself. By expanding thisidea, the character was able to doubt and dismantle the things whichwere presented from outside as sure and clear facts. In other word, thecharacters tried to escape from the stalled situations by denying anddismantling center.As spoked by the narrator of the Fifteen fixed ideas I checked, oneshould always leave a journey with the passion of a beggar who iswilling to knock door by door, and should exist in between. Feel asmany things as possible, say good bye to the world of center withidentification excluding differences of each individuals, be ready to leavea journey anytime, this is the resistance shown in Kim Seong Ok’snovels.
