Abstract

In the era of the Green Building, three-dimensional greenery system is becoming a new trend in both domestic and foreign design professionals, and is being actively studied as a core axis of eco-friendly architecture. This research aims to analyze practitioners' awareness of the concept of Three-dimensional greenery system and actual condition of application throughout practical fields in the country and to explore practical design guidelines to activate the concept further. For this purpose, the application of 3D greenery system was analyzed by each survey index, and Chi square analysis was performed to examine how demographic characteristics of design professionals is related to the research problems. It was found that many design experts understood 3D greenery system as a necessary design component in urban environment, and preferred slope and large-scale site layout for the diversity of space, increase of exterior of buildings, greenification of balcony area. Secondly, it is appeared that the experts perceived 3D greenery system as emotional factor such as aesthetical and eco-friendly icon, rather than pragmatic effect of energy savings, air purification, and noise reduction. Thirdly, the study found that typology of greenification merely focused on such public space as natural outdoor ground, and green roof for the benefit of green certification. Fourthly, it was contended that consistent maintenance and managing cost were main obstacles for the experts to apply 3D greenery system to the projects. Finally, it was concluded that continuing professional education of 3D greenery system was needed for related design experts to apply actively. Further, the study implied that the establishment of clear definition on 3D greenery system and its typology of 3D greenery system in relation to the composition of facade is necessary and design guideline and details need to be developed for diverse space formulation of interior exterior area.
