Abstract

Energy consumption unit of apartment buildings is a very important criteria in planning heating-cooling systems and designing building exterior surfaces. In this study, by analyzing the detailed gas and electric power consumption data of 140,000 households by the field survey and from the quantity records of them used in Ulsan Metropolitan, we are to gain credibility of energy consumption unit by comparing the calculated values and actual consumption values. This paper shows that 1)the average fuel energy consumption unit of apartment buildings amounts to $108.39Mcal/m^2{\cdot}yr$, 2)the average(electric) power consumption unit to $90.30Mcal/m^2{\cdot}yr$, and thus, 3)the total energy consumption unit equals to $198.69Mcal/m^2{\cdot}yr$. At this time, range of floor area is important, in this study, was applied to the private area. In conclusion, The total energy consumption unit of apartment buildings in Ulsan is $108.39Mcal/m^2{\cdot}yr$. These basic consumption units of apartment buildings provide valuable guidelines to reduce energy consumption and to establish energy management policy in Ulsan, because the ratio of apartment buildings to residential buildings is very high. Next, it will also be studied for non-residential buildings.
