Abstract
This study is to establish reference for the politically and socially appropriate standard of the minimum residential area for recently increasing elderly households with one or two persons in the nation through a domestic and foreign literature review. Its research methodology is composed of three stages. In the first stage, it suggests alternatives based on the literature review. In the second stage, the simulation of its floor plan is conducted to examine its feasibility based on the suggested standard of the minimum residential area. In the last stage, its appropriateness is examined through the comparison with domestic and foreign elderly residential scales. The three stages can be suggested in the study, and consequently, the standard area for an elderly household with one person of the Alternative Plan 2 is $24.35m^2$; the standard minimum area for an elderly household with two people of the plan is $36.43m^2$. These numbers and Alternative Plan 2 are to be appropriate under the situation of the nation considering the fact that there will be a strong demand for quality housing as the level of income increases as well as the consideration of the current situation of the middle-aged who will become the elderly in the future.
