Abstract
This paper provides the factors that may contribute to establish practical action plans to improve the professional consciousness of construction workers on the construction industry. The factors are identified by analyzing professional consciousness and the current state of construction industry image recognized by administrative workers and production workers engaged in the domestic construction industry. The findings are as follows. First, administrative workers have positive image towards the construction industry. However, construction workers have negative image. Second, in general, construction workers have positive professional consciousness towards the economic development, land development, social contribution and advanced technology. However, they have very negative image in relation to business ethics and working environment. Third, it was found that for improving administrative and production workers' desire to work and professional consciousness, 'regular working hours' and 'improvement of wages' are needed in a short term. In addition, 'foundation for improvement of future potential' and 'improvement of welfare benefits conditions' are necessary in the medium and long term. Fourth, it was found that there is a need to set a specific goal and choose clear targets and activities suitable to improve the construction workers' cognitive image, and also there should be an active nation-wide promotion for the improvement activities.
