A Study on the Expressive Aspects of Awareness of Existence in Choi Seung-Ja's Poetry

최승자 시에 나타난 존재인식의 표현 양상 연구

Choi Seung-ja, a female poet, created a new poetic methodology forawareness and interpretation of reality without sticking to traditionallyric poetic grammar that was rampant among contemporary femalepoets. She became liberal enough to deconstruct existing norms whileshe made a thorough self-inquiry into existence that preceded substance,and that's because it was possible for her to overcome them thanks toa paradoxical methodology that she created as an independent being.Looking into the poet's expressive aspects of awareness of existence tosee how it was embodied makes it possible to shed light on how thepoet tried to be reconciled with the world, which could never be said tobe good, in order to recover her identity.The poet chose extreme negation instead of hope when sheencountered existence that was in a critical situation in the world ofabsurdity. 'The styles of negative' such as paradox or ironic statementserved to enrich the poetic meaning of her poems. The poet sublimedher own awareness of existence into a poetic consciousness by usingthese aspects of expression.

최승자 시인은 기존 여류시인의 전통적인 서정적 문법을 파기한 동시에 현실인식과 해석에 있어 시적 방법론을 새롭게 제시하였다. 본질에 선행하는 실존에 대한 철저한 자기탐구가 기존 규범을 해체하는 자유정신으로 나아간 것은 무엇보다 시인이 주체적 존재로서 역설적 방법론으로 이를 극복 가능하였기 때문이다. 이러한 시인의 존재의식이 어떠한 과정을 통하여 구현되었는지, 그 표현 양상을 살피는 것은 시인이 자신의 정체성을 회복하기 위해 부정적으로 인식되는 세계와의 화해를 어떠한 방법으로써 모색하는지 밝힐 수 있는 방법이 된다. 부조리한 세계와 한계상황에 놓인 존재에 대해, 시인은 희망을 대신한 극단적인 부정을 실행한다. 이는 ‘죽음의식’으로 언급될 수 있는데, 죽음이라는 위협에서 벗어나고자 비극적 파괴성과 부정적 서정성을 극단적으로 표현한 것이다. 또한 화해하기 어려운 세상을 깊이 병들어 있는 몸으로 보고, 극복을 위한 또다른 방법으로써 자신의 내면을 형상화 한 ‘소외된 몸’을 내던져 스스로 구현하고자 하였다. 주체와 타자, 개인과 사회와의 관계가 파행적으로 치닫던 시대인식이 반영된 최승자의 시는 비극적인 방법론으로 표현되어 나타난다. 이에 대한 역설, 아이러니적 진술 등의 ‘부정어법’은 최승자 시의 시적 의미를 강화시키는 효과를 발휘한다. 이러한 표현 양상을 통하여 최승자 시인은 자신의 존재인식을 시의식으로 심화시켜 소통해왔음을 알 수 있다.
