A Study on the Deve opment of Korean Language Textbook for Children with a Multicultural Background: - with priority given to Korean language education by literary texts-

다문화 아동을 위한 한국어 교재 개발방안 연구- 문학텍스트를 활용한 한국어 교육을 중심으로 -

The purpose of this study was to examine how to deve op a Koreanlanguage textbook geared toward children with a multiculturalbackground by using literary texts.There are lately 46 thousand children with a multicultural background,and the number of these children is expected to keep growing in thefuture. So how to educate these children is now one of social issues,into which prolonged research efforts have been directed, achievingresults. In fact, however, their situations and environments can never besaid to be good enough, and it's urgently required to deve op separatetextbooks, teaching methods and learning methods for their sake.Children from multicultural f milies are likely to face psychologicalprobl ms due to their peculiar situations, and deve oping a Koreanreading textbook by utilizing literary texts is especially worth doing inthat it's possibl for them to not only receive language education andcultural education but also cleanse their psychology in reading process.In this study, how to deve op a literary Korean language textbook byusing historical f iry tal s to make Korean culture and history moreaccessibl to children with a multicultural background was suggested indetail.Historical f iry tal s make it easier to understand Korean culture andhistory due to their l ssons and literary value. Another reason is thatlearners are abl to exert their literary imagination while they appreciate these f iry tal s, which cannot happen when they read an expositorywriting that describes facts.A literary Korean language textbook for children with a multiculturalbackground stirs up learning motivation and interest and thereby iseffective at improving Korean proficiency, and that is expected to instillconfidence in learners to foster their positive thinking as well.

본 연구는 다문화 배경을 가진 아동을 위해 ‘문학텍스트를 활용한 한국어 교재 개발 방법’을 모색하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 최근 다문화 아동의 수는 4만 6000명에 달하며 앞으로도 증가할 것으로 예상된다. 이에 다문화 아동 대상 교육 문제가 대두되고 연구 성과도 누적되고 있으나, 아직도 이들을 위한 여러 제반 조건들은 매우 미흡한 상황이므로 다문화 아동을 위한 교재와 교수 학습방법 연구는 무엇보다도 시급한 과제라고 할 수 있다. 다문화 아동 대상 한국어교육은 단순히 언어교육과 문화교육만을 목적으로 하는 것이 아니라 그들의 특별한 상황으로 인한 심리적인 문제점들까지 고려해야 할 것이다. 따라서 독서의 과정을 통해 문제점들을 긍정적으로 순화할 수 있다는 점에서 문학 텍스트를 활용한 한국어 교재의 개발은 매우 의미 있다고 할 수 있다. 본고에서는 다문화 아동들이 한국 문화와 역사에 대해 자연스럽게 접근할 수 있도록 역사동화를 포함한 문학 한국어 교재 개발을 제안하여 그 구체적 방안을 제시하였다. 역사동화는 교훈성과 문학성을 동시에 가지고 있어 한국문화와 역사에 대해 쉽게 이해하게 할 수 있다. 이는 사실을 전달하는 설명적인 글을 읽을 때와는 달리 호기심과 문학적인 상상력을 발휘하여 감상할 수 있게 하기 때문이다. 다문화 아동을 위한 문학 한국어 교재는 다문화가정 아동에게 학습동기와 흥미를 유발하여 한국어 능력을 향상시키는데 효과적이며, 학습자의 자신감을 신장시켜 적극적이고 긍정적인 사고방식을 기르는데 기여할 것이다.
