Abstract

Even though organizational knowledge processes and organizational development processes have significant influence on project performance, current construction management practice does not explicitly consider organizational issues. Optimism bias regarding organizational aspects could lead to negative outcomes in large-scale construction projects where close coordination and communication among project participants is required to achieve project goals. On this premise, this paper introduces complex system perspective with which we can investigate project organizations from a realistic standpoint. Also, agent-based modeling and simulation method is suggested as a method to consider organizational issues in project management, and an example of agent-based simulation of project organizations is presented.
