Abstract
While various complex housing plans have been introduced to our country recently, block housing besides flat-typed, tower-typed apartments is being appeared at several dwelling sites by way of showing examples. Block housing has structures like ㄴ, ㄷ, and ㅁ forms differently from standard apartments, and thus facilities including bench, pond, and playground etc of each apartment are arranged to its center as architectural characteristics. However, researches having analyzed which influences were affected to social activities of residents and sense of community by the block setting have never been made empirically till now. Therefore, this study tried to analyze what kind of influences were affected to social activities of residents and their senses of community actually after selecting Eunpyeong New Town as an object. As a result of this analysis, various social activities were observed at outer spaces of block housing more than standard apartments, and activity frequencies were appeared as being higher than standard apartments. According to a questionnaire, average scores on social activities, sense of community at block housing were higher than standard apartments by 0.53 and 0.39 score respectively. Also, social activities were shown as significantly affecting to the sense of community statistically as the result of using regression analysis, and thus the study considers its positive results such like social activities of residents would be enlarged and their senses of community could be enhanced accordingly through block housing plans.
