A Study on the Ratio of Service Facilities in Urban Welfare Housing for the Elderly

Abstract

So-called Baby boomers born between 1955 and 1963 will be the elderly in 8 years. By contrast to the previous generations they want to spend more leisure time than making money. In this situation, The importance of service facilities is increased a lot. This paper aims to suggest the ratio of the service facilities for urban-type welfare housing as a reference to future service facilities planning. To conduct this research, the ratios of service facilities of the US, Japan and the Republic of Korea are compared and maximum simultaneous users are calculated. The result of this study can be summarized as follows: First, residents' preference for service facilities are presented. Second, compared to other countries, the ratio of our service facilities is higher than other countries' cases. Third, the ratio of each area of service facilities corresponding with gross area is presented. Lastly, for the efficiency of service facilities size, one of best ways is to connect with community facilities and more active community link is needed.
