Abstract-The numbers of industrial accidents due to electrostatic sparks of fine powders are increasing. Factors, such as amount of sprayed mass, kinds of powders and supply air pressure, affecting tribocharging of fine powders in a powder coating spray gun were investigated experimentally. Powers of lycopodium, polyacrylonitrile, Nylon 11 and iron oxide were used. Tribocharge of the powders depended on their feeding rate to the spray gun. The specific charge of power decreased with an increase in feeding rate region. While, it was constant in the low feeding rate region. Tribocharge of powders increased with an increase in the ionization potential difference between powder and rubbing medium (Teflon). Tribocharge of powders increase in supply air pressure. The influence of specific volume and apparent resitivity of the powders on their tribocharging characteristics are also discussed.
