Abstract

Desized and scoured cellulose blend fabrics containing cotton, such as polynosic/cotton(50/50) and Tencel/cotton(70/30) were treated in liquid ammonia($NH_{3}$)at -33.4$^{\circ}C$. The X-ray diffraction patterns, dyeing properties, moisture regain, water absorption, and mechanical properties were evaluated. Water absorption decreases with $NH_{3}$-treatment due to increase in the number of small pores, and the component of cotton. In case of blend fabrics, cellulose I, II, and III structures coexist after the $NH_{3}$-treatment. Dyeing properties such as dyeing rate and equilibrium dye uptake of polynosic/cotton blend fabrics are improved by the $NH_{3}$-treatment. This can be explained by dominant appearance of cellulose II and III structures with the $NH_{3}$-treatment. The $NH_{3}$-treatment imparts higher dry and wet wrinkle recoveries and lower shear hysteresis(2HG and 2HG5).
