Abstract

Chito-oligosaccharides were prepared by depolymerizing chitosan with sodium nitrite. Cotton fabrics were treated with chito-oligosaccharide and dimethylol dihydroxyethyleneurea (DMDHEU) as a cross-linker by pad-dry-cure process to impart their antimicrobial property. Antimicrobial activity of chito-oligosaccharide treated cotton fabrics was excellent. Durability to laundering of treated fabrics was high enough to retain antimicrobial activity after twenty cycles of laundering.
