Abstract

The factors determining the fiber aspect ratio (FAR) of nylon 6 flat yarns were investigated in terms of various nozzle aspect ratios (NAR), spinning temperature, spinning speed, and melt flow rate, etc. Also the relations between NAR and tensile properties were studied. NAR from 2 to 50 were used in this experiment. As a result, FAR was 2.6 and 9.1 when the NAR were 5.0 and 50, respectively. Also FAR increased with the decrease of spinning temperature and the increase of spinning speed and melt flow rate. It was found that the tenacity decreased with increase of FAR. After drawing (draw ratio=3.2) the FAR of drawn fiber increased compared to FAR of undrawn fiber. For the drawn nylon 6 flat yarns, the shrinkage ratio of short direction was larger than that of long direction in terms of drawing.
