Abstract
A survey was conducted to investigate the status of soils involving pH, electrical conductivity, total organic matter content, available phosphate and major exchangeable cations in the paddy soils sampled from 1,168 sites throughout the country. The content of soil chemical properties was lower on the average than the optimum levels for cropping. An average value showed pH 5.6, organic matter
