Shrinkproof Finish of Viscose Rayon Fabric with 1,2,3,4-Butanetetracarboxylic Acid

Abstract

100% viscose rayon fabric was treated with 1,2,3,4-butanetetracarboxylic acid (BTCA) by pad-dry-cure process in the presence of sodium hypophosphite (SHP) to impart shrinkproof property. The effect of reaction conditions on the dimensional stability, mechanical properties, and hand values of fabric treated with BTCA/SHP were investigated. The ester-crosslinking reaction was influenced by curing temperature, curing time, and the concentration of BTCA and catalyst. Wrinkle recovery and shrinkage of fabric treated with BTCA/SHP were improved, and hand values remained similar to the original values of the untreated fabric, with an increase in the concentration of BTCA. But, breaking strength, tearing strength, abrasion resistance, and whiteness index decreased.
