Abstract

The surface treatment was carried out to improve the spinnability and anti-static property of angora rabbit fibers. The moisturized or non-moisturized samples were treated with SO$_2$ gas using the experimental apparatus designed in this study. The effects of the treating time and the surface moisture on the physical properties of angora rabbit fibers treated with SO$_2$ gas for 10~40 seconds at room temperature were investigated. Scales of the cuticle layer were effectively raised without losing the tenacity when treated for 20 seconds at 20 $^{\circ}C$. It was found that the pitted features on the scale surface were appeared in the moisturized samples which were treated for longer than 30 seconds. With this experimental results, the surface structure, the tenacity, the elongation, and the surface resistance of angora rabbit fibers treated with SO$_2$ gas were greatly influenced by the treating time and the moisture on the surface of fibers.
