Abstract

This research carried out the comprehensive evaluation of warp-knitted fabrics using the mathematical approach which is the product of the 8 selected main mechanical characteristics and the weighted factor vector (A). 50 kinds of warp-knitted fabrics were newly made for clothing, and we chose the fabrics that are represented the upper and lower limit value of selected mechanical properties from KES-FB systems. Moreover, an advanced and modified fuzzy hand evaluation was introduced on the basis of four deformable ways (tensile, shear, compression and bending properties) and two physical characteristics (weight and thickness) of fabric. In this study, each mechanical characteristics which are resulted from the expecting 8 factors of warpknitted fabrics transformed into the meaningful value of scale by fuzzy transformation matrix (R). And another indict sensible element is the weighted factor vector, which was deduced from a survey of panels of judges (N=30). Above all, the two combined factors for the stretchiness (WC RC) and the bulkiness (RT EM) well explained the practical hand properties of warp-knitted fabrics. And the difference between the results of Kawabata's THV and the results of fuzzy method were compared and analyzed, and then the suitability of fuzzy method were verified by the subjective assessment.
