Abstract
Cotton fabric was rendered ion exchanger by grafting it with: (a) Glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) followed by aminiEation with ethylene thiamine: (b) Dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate (DHARMA) followed by quaternization and; (c) Acrylic acid (AA). Grafting was carried out on a pilot scale using thiqcarbonate-HrOs redox system. Characterization of the cotton fabric exchangers are studied. Effect of the nature of the dye and nature of the exchanger on the magnitude of dye exhaustion are evaluated. The obtained cotton graft copolymers were monitored for their ability to remove different dyes as well as heavy metals from aqueous solutions. Also, the regeneration effect on the exchangers capacity were investigated.
