Abstract

Correlations between the cotton fiber properties measured by the HVI system and the yarn properties such as strength, lea strength, elongation, hairiness, and various imperfections have been derived. Amongst various yarn properties, the yarn strength and the lea strength exhibit good correlations with the HVI data, while the others show poor relationships. This result is due to the fact that the formers are influenced more strongly by the characteristics of cotton fibers than by the yarn forming processes. It is therefore concluded that the correlation analysis should be applied to the data of the individual factories which have been well controlled rather than to those of the group of several factories.
