디자인/산업협회의 성립과 역할에 대한 고찰

It IS timely and meaningful to research into the procedure of the establishment of the design movement and its role in early twentieth century Britain, which underwent a similar situation to that of current Korea, especially when the development of industrial design is thought to be essential in enhancing nation's competitive power. Besides, the study of the British design movement and design policies resulting from it will set a valuablt, example for us to follow in forming design policies for the betterment of design and in making guidelines for the Korean design movement. Therefore, first. I studil'd circumstances of the period when D.I.:\ was established and the German design movement as well as principles of German I}I.A. as foundation stones for it. Then. I discussed both D.I.A. activities and major figures of the D.I.A. movement in 1~):!O's, l~nO's and l~)~O's. In conclusion, I indicated [xJsitive and negative aspects of the role of D.l.:\.

국가 경쟁력을 제고하기 위한 방법의 하나로 산업디자인의 진흥이 중요한 관심사로 떠오르는 시점에서 20c초 우리 나라와 유사한 상황에 처했던 영국 디자인 운동이 성립과정과 그 역할을 살펴보는 것은 매우 의미 있고 시의 적절한 일이라고 생각된다. 그리고 반드시 이러한 현실적인 요구가 아니라 하더라도 영국의 디자인 운동과 이에 따른 디자인 정책을 살펴보는 것은 우리의 입장에서 디자인 개선을 위한 정책수립과 디자인운동의 방향을 설정하는데 크게 참고가 되리라고 생각된다. 이런 측면에서 먼저 D.I.A. 설립 당시의 시대적 상황을 살펴보고 설립의 배경이 된 독일의 디자인 운동 및 D.I.A 의 활동에 대해서는 설립초기의 상황에서부터 20년대, 30년대, 40년대 순 으로 각 시대별 활동상황 및 중요인물들의 역할에 대해 기술하였다. 끝으로 결론부분에서는 D.I.A 가 수행한 역할을 긍정적 측면과 부정적 측면으로 나누어 지적하였다.
