Abstract

The draw resonance at high draw ratios in polypropylene melt spinning was studied. Change of the period and amplitude of the draw resonance at a high draw ratios were investigated and the procedure of stabilization of the draw resonance was discussed. Effects of spinning conditions on the draw resonance was also discussed. The magnitude of amplitude had a critical limit and decreased with draw ratio at higher draw ratios. The draw resonance showed a small new peak at a high draw ratio and the amplitude of this peak increased with draw ratio above a certain draw ratio, but it could not be distinguished from the original peak. This peak showed a period close to one half period of the original draw resonance peak. At higher draw ratios, more peaks were observed and showed a peak that is 1/3, 1/4 or even shorter than the original draw resonance peak. The shortening of the period means a system stabilization, but the onset of this short period did not have a critical draw ratio.
