The FAST Systems which has been traditionally used for evaluating tailorability of wool fabrics, has a limitation for evaluating fabric appearance. The reason is that mechanical hystereses such as bending and shearing hysteresis which are key parameters in determining fabric appearance can not be measured. In this study testing methods were developed to facilitate these hysteresis measurements on the FAST System. Several fabrics such as wool, cotton, silk, and synthetic fabrics were used. The Weighted Euclidean Distance method was introduced to objectively evaluate fabric appearance. The results from the FAST System showed an excellent agreement with those from the KES System. This indicates that the FAST system has a high potential in evaluating fabric appearance.
