Abstract

The rheological properties of in-situ solution polymerized polyacrylonitrile(PAN) spinning dope and the mechanical properties of fiber prepared by on-line spinning were investigated. The in-situ polymerized spinning dopes which produced PAH fibers with good mechanical properties could be defined on the plot of inherent viscosity of the polymer and solid content of the polymerization solution. This spinning process enabled one to obtain very fine circular cross-sectioned fibers of diameters of 5 to 10mm. Furthermore, the fibers have striation-free smooth surface and little core-sheath structure. The fiber so obtained exhibited high tensile strength up to 10g14 and tensile modulus up to 190g/d without using a ultra high molecular weight PAN.
